Loving Unconditionally

Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Unconditionally Loving!:

One of the things I talked about in this week’s Living A Course in Miracles homework call is the suffering that’s caused when we say that we love someone, but our love is really conditional – which, of course, means that it’s not really Love. We think that we’re distressed because of what others are doing or not doing, but so often the cause of our distress is actually that we are refusing to love unconditionally. We’re upset because we say we love someone that we’re not willing to have compassion for.

Bottom line: We love to love our loved ones except when we don’t feel like it!

That fact creates more distress than we realize and we almost always blame it on our loved ones. Which means we feel our upset is caused by what THEY are doing or not doing. And yet, it’s never true. We’re actually upset because of our unwillingness to be devoted to Love itself. Love knows no grievances. None. Zero.

Following with Ken Wapnick’s inspired Shakespeare quote – here’s an all-time favorite of mine Sonnet 116 and for you ACIM fans, yes this is written in iambic pentameter (these sonnets don’t have titles – they are simply entitled by their number)

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

I have said to myself countless times “love is not love which alters when it alteration finds,” to remind myself that love is unconditional – now and forever. “It is an ever-fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken.” These words inspire me to be like Love for that IS my true nature!

I AM the purity of God’s Love. Now and forever!

  1. I guess the real question is, what is Love? I mean, here in the illusion it seems to be the ego’s domain. The kind of love that IS conditional. I wonder if, even though I know that this is a dream and I have my cast of characters that present themselves for my Jafo’s do I really know what Love is. I know I Truly do, but under the spell of ego I know I do not really know Love. So how in the heck am I supposed to be enlightened enough to feel True Love for the forgiveness opportunities that present themselves to me?? I know I love all of us the ONE, in Spirit but here in the dream I am perplexed. Jennifer your voice, your words, your Love is divine to me.
