Click here to listen to today’s Daily Power Prayer for Being of Loving Service!:
Is it possible to have a full and rich life without being of service to others? It is in service to others that we acknowledge and appreciate our oneness with all life. There are so many different ways to live a life of service. I think we sometimes believe that in order for our service to be substantial it must also be highly visible and dramatic.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve.” There are many ways to serve. I’ve come to see that being kind with everyone I meet is an extraordinary act of service. To hold people with love and compassion regardless of what they’re doing, or how they’re treating me is to serve God in the most direct way. While this may appear to be simple it can often be challenging and nearly impossible. There were times when it was so hard to even have a kind thought about someone who had treated me badly. Yet this is precisely when it was the greatest service.
It can be easy to match a person’s anger with more anger. To remain in the loving heart, to demonstrate kindness in the face of anger is to turn the other cheek. Ask yourself, who is it that is being served when you’re able to remain loving and kind despite all kinds of provocation? Perhaps the person who is provoking is giving you the opportunity to be of service. If your intention is to be loving, can you find the answered prayer in the challenge to be of service?
Today you can expand your idea of service to include choosing higher in moments of frustration. Today, look to be of service to the highest possibility of peace and Love.
Affirmation:
I serve Love!
Hi Jennifer — good timing on this one. I usually don’t seem to have time to open much email, so most of your messages end up floating on by. But this one I opened without thinking, and it was the story of my life. For the last 2 months I’ve been a full-time caregiver for an incapacitated cancer patient. She has no use of her left arm, paralyzed from surgery, and has limited mobility due to further incursions of the disease into her lung. She is a fighter, so sometimes she lashes out at me, and although I know it’s her frustration and her way of exerting energy against the condition, I’ve had to become a Zen monk: One ego response = two blows to the head. If I respond back to defend myself, or point out how she “should be,” it just stresses her out more, and then down we go. It’s so much easier to respond with compassion, knowing that love is the truth of the situation, and the solution.
I registered for masterful living preview call and was unable to listen live. Was hoping to hear replay but it appears the replay is stopped. Today is Sunday 12/18. Will the replay be put up?
Also am considering Masterful Living 2012. Is it possible to do both Masterful Living and Finding Freedom? How often in the year will you be offering Finding Freedom?
Thanks!
Hello Jacqueline,
