Wolf Moon

Today is our January full moon. As I understand it, this is going to be an exceptional full moon and I encourage you to make a plan to go out and look at it as it’s coming up in the sky. It’s supposed to be ginormous!

It’s named Wolf Moon because this huge moon will inspire the winter wolves to howling like no other! What fun. You may wish to go and howl at it too.

Wolf has been following me around getting my attention for the last few days so I pulled out my Animial Spirit Medicine cards to remind myself about Wolf medicine.

“Wolf is the pathfinder, the forerunner of new ideas who returns to the clan to teach and share medicine. The moon is it’s power ally. The moon is the symbol for psychic energy or the unconscious that holds the secrets of knowledge and wisdom. Baying at the moon may be an indication of Wolf’s desire to connect with new ideas which are just below the surface of consciousness. Wolf medicine empowers the teacher within us all to come forth and aid the children of Earth in understanding the Great Mystery and life.” (Great Mystery, of course, the name Native Americans use for God.)

Feels very auspicious, doesn’t it??

Full moon is a time for releasing. It seems this is the perfect time for us to consciously release anything that is standing in the way of accessing the wisdom teacher within. I encourage you to make your own full moon releasing ceremony and remember to add something sweet back in. When we release, we consciously take in something that feels nourishing, inspiring and uplifting – a sweet prayer, music, dark chocolate, or good sweet cornbread. You can make a fire puja and write out that which no longer serves you and then burn that list, making a holy offering of it.

Adding healthy, spiritual rituals and sacred ceremony into our life grounds us to the Great Mystery and life. It helps us remember that we are spiritual beings, and our nature is pure. Our connection with Spirit is the foundation of our life. The changing of the moon reminds us that we are in the flow of the sacred every day.

Whenever we see the moon, it’s always inspiring and uplifting. Thank you Moon! Thank you Wolf! Sweet indeed!
