Sometimes when things don’t go the way we’d like them to, the temptation is to label it bad or wrong. I’ve learned to leave my mind open to DISCOVER the good in whatever is unfolding. This can make life feel more adventurous – sometimes more like a roller coaster ride. Personally I’d rather be on a roller coaster ride then stewing in a point of view of bad or wrong.

When my sister-in-law, Debbie, was 47 years old she found out that she was pregnant. She and my brother, Michael, already had three children. The youngest one was nine years old. Michael and Debbie were “done” having children. Her doctor had told her it would be “impossible” to have another child.

When they discovered that Debbie was expecting child #4 they were in shock. Some children are a surprise. This one was a SHOCK. Debbie would be 48 when this one was born. 48!!!! She had nursed all the other children for two years. She’d be nursing at age 50. Yikes!

Not to mention the expense of yet another child.

My brother’s initial reaction was to bring a lawsuit against their doctor. He wanted to sue for all the expenses of raising a fourth child. Understandable.

Well, Mikey was born and is now 6 years old. He is absolutely a joy and a pleasure for all of us. He makes everything more delightful. (As I type this he’s singing me a song about the “awesome” cake he helped make for dessert “there’s a party in my belly …”)

So, at first, Mikey was a shock and now he’s a treasure. What made the difference? Love of course.

The invitation is to ask yourself, what have you been labeling as wrong or bad, that could actually have some amazing good encoded within it if you were but willing to shift your point of view, change the label you put on it and accept that it’s all good?

There’s so much healing that happens when we’re willing to give up labels, give up the judgments and opinions and accept the good – even when we cannot yet see it or feel it. No matter what, the good is encoded in there. It requires trust and faith in the ALL GOOD of God. When we can live by faith then every moment is good, even if it’s not all fun.

Affirmation:

I AM willing to accept the good of God in every area of my life RIGHT NOW!
