You may know that I started doing yoga back in the ’90s. One of the types of yoga that I started to study was Kundalini yoga. Kundalini yoga is a spiritual practice of yoga exercises, mantra chanting, breathwork, and meditation as well as special hand positions called mudras.

A few years ago, I began to study Kundalini yoga to become a teacher of it so I could learn more for myself, and also to lead yoga classes when I do retreats. Now, I’m finding that it’s been wonderful to share in my classes and not just retreats!

Each Kundalini yoga class is made up of kriyas.

Kriyas are one or more exercises, which, when taken together will have the full effect of a chakra alignment and clearing, aura strengthening, working on the main body systems, and aligning body, mind and spirit, and many other benefits such as balancing the nervous system, clearing the lymph glands, strengthening and toning muscles, and so much more. So many benefits!

Some kriyas are extremely challenging, some are very simple. Some are profoundly powerful.

There are kriyas that are a meditation as well as a set of exercises. The Kirtan (pronounced KEER-ton) kriya is one of the most potent of all Kundalini kriyas, PLUS it’s a meditation. And, it’s simple. You can easily do it in 11 minutes and you’ll find that it’s life-changing if you practice it daily.

Read on if you’d like to know more.

My first extensive experience of doing the Kirtan Kriya was when I was leading a retreat a year ago for the healing of sexual abuse. I had asked my Kundalini teacher trainer, master practitioner Hari Kaur Khalsa author of several books on Kundalini yoga and meditation, to suggest some kriyas and meditations that would help during the retreat.

I knew we’d be stirring up a lot of intense emotion and energy discussing the sexual abuse of the past, and I wished to make sure that everyone was able to stay balanced and harmonious. I also wished to make sure that everyone slept well at night.

As a group, we did the Kirtan Kriya each night for 31 minutes before bedtime. Everyone slept well, woke up feeling great, refreshed, renewed and ready to have another powerful day of healing. Perfect!

Then, at the Spiritual Counseling Training Intensive last fall, we did the Kirtan Kriya each night before bed. That initial morning, one of the participants said that this was the first time they’d woken up without worries in more than a decade. Wow! We both knew that it was the result of doing the Kirtan Kriya.

Many older people today are concerned about memory loss and Alzheimers. Well, there are actual studies that show Kirtan Kriya has real results and effects to reverse these issues.

It also helps with depression.

At a time when many people have intense anxiety and are getting frequently triggered by the things going on in the world we can use some simple tools that really work to help us rebalance, and connect with Spirit.

Kirtan Kriya is an excellent tool for many reasons.

To make it fun for us, I’ve created an entire resource page that shows you how to do the Kirtan Kriya, plus videos so you can do it along with me, and links to the scientific research.

I’m also inviting you to join me and others in a 40 Day Kirtan Kriya Challenge. Let’s make it fun together!

There’s no cost to join the challenge – this is just a gift from the Power of Love Ministry to you.
