This might sound crazy, but it’s true.
I can remember feeling that it’s a burden to care about other people’s feelings.
At times, when I felt threatened, I could be like my kitten Sattva who, when frightened might claw to get away.
Sattva can retract his claws or he can take a swipe. I see him playing with Bodhi and sometimes Bodhi is very intense with him. Bodhi weighs more than 80 pounds and Sattva weighs about 5 pounds. Bodhi can pin him so easily and could hurt him unintentionally.
Sattva understands that no harm is intended even though Bodhi is using force and pressure to pin him down. That was not so with me. I did intend harm to people with my words, only because I felt threatened and I needed to let people know to back off and stay away.
I’m so glad I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m grateful that even when I am upset I can tell people, “I’m feeling upset and it’s not you. It’s just my own frustration.”
I don’t wish to hurt anyone anymore. Not for any reason.
I don’t often feel threatened, but I can understand when people do because I felt that way so often. If folks lash out at me or shut down or make accusations, I can have compassion for it and for myself too.
Relationships can be the most difficult thing in the world and they can be the most glorious.
We can experience the worst pain of separation or the most powerful joining. This is the gift our relationships offer us.
No matter what’s going on at the surface, personality level, there’s a deep Love that is an undercurrent – and it’s the Love that Spirit has for itself.
God is loving itself when we’re loving each other. Love is exploring and expressing itself when we’re connecting, and that is a beautiful and most precious thing. It’s a gift.
We’re already perfect. We’re already whole. We’re already free.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:30
This scripture comes into my mind often. It helps me to remember that all that’s Real is Light and there’s no true burden. The yoke that binds us is not hard to bear, it’s a blessing. Our oneness blesses us.
