Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Twenty or more years ago I began to discover the healing power of forgiveness.

Forgiveness heals pain of ALL kinds.

  • There’s the mental pain of going over and over and over things mentally in an obsessive compulsive way.
  • Then there’s the emotional pain of believing that we’re a victim, feeling guilty or ashamed, angry and resentful.
  • Of course, there’s the physical discomfort and illness that sometimes emerges as a direct result of the two above.

When the mental pain persists, when the emotional suffering continues, then it’s very common for physical pain to emerge.

Forgiveness is an anti-inflammatory for the heart and mind.

Hurt, resentment, regret, guilt, and shame are inflammation of the mental and emotional bodies that directly affect the physical body.

I’ve felt ashamed and felt sick to my stomach.

I’ve felt angry and had a sore throat.

I’ve felt frightened and developed a splitting headache.

Can you relate?

When the pain seems to be never-ending we often look for something to dull that pain.  When our mind is going over and over painful thoughts, we’ll reach for something to dull the mind.

It could be zoning out with television, books, talking on the phone, working, even cleaning.

When the emotional pain feels exhausting and unrelenting we might reach for wine, beer, alcohol, food, anything that could dull our senses, even exercise.

When the physical pain is too much we reach for drugs and distraction.

None of this is wrong.

All of it is normal and understandable.

Being in pain is intolerable, except to the people who are masochistic.

What I absolutely know is that increased awareness, rather than dulled awareness, is healing.  The pain actually pushes us to look for healing options.  “There must be a better way,” we say.

If we’re willing to find the better way, and we turn to Spirit to lead us, we’ll be led to forgiveness and the practice of nonjudgment.  That’s why this is the cornerstone of A Course in Miracles and of my programs.

We’re entitled to miracles.

I’ve worked with more people than I count who have healed chronic pain, chronic depression, chronic anxiety and suffering of all kinds who’ve been able to use the methods outlined in ACIM to heal the pain and suffering.

The challenge is that many people don’t really understand how to do forgiveness, and what it really is, so they think that they’ve forgiven, but they absolutely have not and their suffering continues.  The pain continues.  And then they think that forgiveness isn’t that helpful.

How do you know if you’re doing forgiveness for real?  You feel healed.  The regret, guilt, shame, suffering ends and is over.  It’s simple.

And this is why I offer free forgiveness programs.  Including a workshop next week!

Forgiveness is so healing it’s hard to believe how beneficial it is until you’re willing to really dive in.  I’ve worked with so many people that have had healing at all levels simply because of the forgiveness they did.  It works whether we believe it will or not.  It’s miraculous.

If you’d like to find a way to give up painful patterns of obsessive compulsive defend and attack thoughts and the self-medication that we often use to dull ourselves to get some relief, if you’d like to fast track the release of habits of guilt and shame, I’m offering my End My Self-Sabotage Challenge later this month.

If you’re a secret smoker, if you isolate and self-medicate with food or alcohol and then feel ashamed and filled with self-judgment; if you’re aware that you keep sabotaging yourself, please consider joining in this beautiful program with a group of like-minded souls who’re remembering to laugh and truly healing these pain patterns.  Together, we can get it done!

NEW PODCAST EPISODE:  The most recent episode of my podcast’s topic is Does Darkness Have Power? Sometimes we become afraid of what we perceive as darkness within ourselves or others.  There’s no such thing as darkness within us, no matter how dark our thoughts might seem.  We are not our thoughts!
