This month we’ve decided to start a Spotlight Series to introduce you to the angels behind the scenes that support the Power of Love Ministry and all that we offer you. The votes were unanimous! This month we begin shining the light on: Gee Jay Leyson. Gee Jay lives in the Philippines and in November will be celebrating his 3rd year with the Ministry.
If you have ever written to firstname.lastname@example.org, this is the man behind the curtain. This wizard of ours, handles Community Care in the Ministry. He takes pride in serving our community. He is the go-to guy for questions, concerns and technical snafus.
I presented Gee Jay with six questions. Here is a summary of our conversation:
What do you enjoy most about working for the Ministry?
Being able to provide a solution to anyone who reaches out and also supporting the team makes me happy. I appreciate that the Ministry supports us in taking time off so we can spend time with our families.
Working for the Ministry has made me a better person. I wouldn’t trade this life- changing experience for anything.
Who is the most influential person in your life?
My grandmother. Every Sunday morning when I was growing up, she would take me to church and give me treats afterwards.
What is the most important lesson you learned from her?
Always be grateful every day and say, “Thank you God” even during a busy day. She taught me the value of respecting everyone, be it family or friends.
And…. there’s no talking back to my elders! I think this is a common Filipino trait.
If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have finished college and have a degree. There were many times that I attempted to drop out of school and thought ‘this is not going anywhere, and I should stop.’ She made sure that me, her eldest grandson, finished.
I know she prayed countless times for me then. Even now, she constantly checks in with me to see if I have prayed or if I went to church, or if I am taking vitamins, like I’m 8 years old! And I am glad that she does. I am always overwhelmed by her love. And now helping every week with Sundays With Spirit, I can tell her that I go to service every week and that makes her happy.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy watching stand-up comedy and mountain biking with my friends. I am an enduro bike racer.
Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would like to say a big THANK YOU for bearing with me as I try my best to be helpful. I am glad to be part of the team supporting Jennifer and our community and though you may not agree, I regard you all as my second family!
What would I add about Gee Jay?
One of our favorite things about Gee Jay is his sense of humor. Once during a staff meeting, the theme was to share one of our favorite things. Gee Jay kept his monitor off until it was time for him to share. When he turned on his camera, there he was in full biker regalia! Helmet, leather jacket and gloves.
