One of the greatest realizations for me was that I AM never alone and that’s real – it’s not just a theory! For so long there was a constant recurring cycle in my mind of feeling alone, feeling misunderstood, and feeling separate and different from everyone else.
Now, looking back, I can sense that I enjoyed it, in the perverse way that the ego enjoys things. My sense of “otherness” and aloneness made me feel special. I was so special because I felt so alone. I was so special because people didn’t understand me. I felt this way even though I had many friends and a loving family. It only had to do with the story I believed about myself.
As soon as I was really willing to give that false story up and completely surrender any interest in ANY kind of specialness I began to literally FEEL that I was surrounded by loving beings who were constantly helping me, leading me and guiding me. I started to discover that it’s not even possible to be alone. The fullness of Love is constantly with us and it’s there in the form of our angels, our ancestors and many other masterful beings. All the great mystical teachers share this.
In A Course in Miracles this is what is meant by the MIGHTY COMPANIONS that are talked about in the Manual For Teachers, Chapter 4, A. Development of Trust.
