Yesterday I awoke too early. I had been up late working after a wonderful day in Porto. I say it was too early to wake up because I was awoken by the sound of furniture being moved – scraped – along a wooden floor and being dropped. This went on for at least a half an hour and it was loud enough to be getting through my ear plugs.
I decided to get up. A minor annoyance that might have been, 10 years ago, a major one. I’m staying in a big new hotel, quite beautiful, in the Marriott family. It’s been a great visit. Then this.
On the way to breakfast I stop at the front desk, along with my BFF and roommate on this trip, Gina. We explain what happened with the furniture moving noises that woke us both up. The woman at the front desk was lovely and apologized for the inconvenience. That was that.
Now, as the leader of this Ministry, I’m interested in customer care and how people handle things. I’m interested in what I can learn from them. And, if I can, I’ll share where it might be helpful and people are actually interested.
I didn’t say anything more to this woman, but I can say, as a customer, I would have loved to have heard the words, “let me look into it and see what I can find out.” Something that was proactive and would leave me feeling like it might not be my experience tomorrow morning.
I don’t blame this woman – blaming never helps – for not thinking of it – she wasn’t trained to think of it. That’s not her fault.
Everyone has so many things to learn, including me, let’s not blame anyone for what they don’t know and they can’t see.
Let’s also remember that not everyone is interested in going the extra mile. If you don’t know the rewards of going the extra mile to accomplish something with excellence, then the extra mile will just seem like more work and most people don’t want that.
I remember the saying, “it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” These words are truth to me. They are words to live by. And, by the way, everyone’s important to God. Everyone.
If they’re important to God they can be important to us. What you do to the least of them …
Everyone’s my teacher. And the guru is within.
This woman at the front desk was lovely and she was doing the best she knew how to do – to become upset with her because she din’t do a better job would have ruined my morning and brought no benefit whatsoever.
Many years ago I would have caused a scene over something like that. I might have become belligerent.
Now, I am grateful to know that Love is the way and Love is MY way.
I choose Love for Love has already chosen me.
To me, Love is the way I walk in God.
It’s the way I live ACIM. And that practice is active all the time and it’s led me from the darkness. I don’t ever feel I’m in darkness anymore.
