Are we teachers of God?

I sat with that question all week, and the answer A Course in Miracles gives in the Manual for Teachers surprised me all over again:

“A teacher of God is anyone who chooses to be one.”

That’s the entire entry requirement.

Not a degree. Not decades of study. Not feeling holy enough, healed enough, or wise enough first.

The qualification is a single moment of choosing.

ACIM describes it as a choice we made somewhere, somehow, in which we didn’t see our own interests as separate from someone else’s.

Have you ever felt that? A moment when you weren’t separate from your sister or your brother. When their good mattered to you simply because you felt connected, one with them.

If you have, you’re qualified.

I remember the relief when this landed for me. For years I carried the belief that I had to become worthy before I could be of any use. That I had to fix myself first.

It isn’t true.

The moment we choose, ACIM tells us, our road is established and our direction is sure. A light enters the darkness. It may be a single light, but that’s enough.

One light is enough.

Teachers of God come from everywhere.

From every religion and from no religion. I came from no religion myself. The call is universal, and it’s going out all the time.

We don’t answer it by being perfect. We answer it by being willing.

If you feel that quiet pull to help others remember their wholeness, that pull is the call, and it asks for nothing but your yes.

It doesn’t wait until you feel ready. It simply waits for your choice.
