On Tuesday, I had a beautiful experience of God’s Perfection – although it didn’t seem like it at first. I’m staying in an Airbnb rental in Scottsdale, Arizona, and I was out for an evening walk as the sun was setting. I came back just after dark, and as I went to enter the house the door wouldn’t unlock.

The door to the house is one of those keypads with a combination lock. It wasn’t working at all. I tried it a dozen times and nothing. I figured that the battery must have died. I texted the landlord, who didn’t respond, so I called and explained.

She told me she didn’t have a plan for this, as it hadn’t happened before.

She said that her daughter could come with a key to unlock in two hours.

I said “That’s great, but… I really have to go to the bathroom. I don’t have a car, I don’t have my wallet, and I don’t wish to wait two hours to get in. Any other ideas?”

The landlord had no ideas, except to walk somewhere and find a bathroom. She was REALLY sorry and said she’d get a gift certificate to a restaurant and she apologized profusely.

I said that I didn’t need a gift certificate, I just didn’t wish to wait two hours. She had no other options, so we ended the call with me having to wait it out.

I sat there on the bench by the front door to wait to see what Spirit would guide me to. A beautiful dog, maybe a husky-golden retriever mix, came running up to me as I contemplated. He was so friendly. I knew immediately he was lost. He had no collar, he was well-groomed and clean. He probably jumped a fence and escaped.

He had me pet him for a while and then he ran off. I continued to contemplate for a minute, and then I got the nudge to go walk 15 minutes or so to the nearest store that might have a bathroom I could use. I also wished to make sure that the sweet dog was alright.

Well, I saw the dog nervously running around the street, and so I sat down on a wall and called him to me as I again contemplated what to do. I got Clarity and followed it.

I knew the dog might have a chip that could be read so he could be found.
I called the police, who said to take him to a vet.
I found a 24-hour vet that was open.

During this time the dog would take off and then I’d call him back to me to keep out of traffic.
I was just beginning to call for a Lyft when he took off and ran up to this SUV that was passing. The driver immediately stopped and got out and the dog jumped in. I thought maybe this was the owner out looking for him!

Well, it turned out that this woman who stopped was a dog lover who was concerned that he was running around in traffic. I explained everything to her and asked her if she’d drive me to the vet, since the dog was already in her car, and she said she’d be happy to.

At the vet, we quickly discovered the dog had a chip and the owner was notified. I said I’d hang out for a while to see if the owner responded. I used the bathroom (yay!), and after about forty-five minutes got a message that the landlord’s daughter was available to come and give me the key.

I headed home and was grateful that everything had gone so well.

Now, here’s the kicker – yesterday morning, I went to go for a walk and thought I’d just see if the lock was working. It was. It worked perfectly several times that day.

So, of course, I know that the whole experience was so that I could help the dog. If I hadn’t been locked out, I wouldn’t have met the dog and who knows what might have happened to him? Life is interesting!

We can be truly helpful to dogs as well as people.

Spirit has a plan for us at all times.

There are no accidents. None.

Rather than questioning why things are happening to us, we can accept what is occurring and invite the blessing in it.

I had a plan for my evening, but Spirit had a better plan.

I’m so grateful that I could help that beautiful pup!
