It took me a very long time to consciously recognize that trust was a major issue for me. There are so many layers to it, and I’d like to break that down a bit today.
Trust issues show up in the most painful ways in our relationships.
We don’t trust other people, and then we have unloving and conditional relationships. Our relationships become co-dependent “let’s make a deal” special relationships that lead us to feeling deep depression, despair and worse. The worse part is that the ego interprets it all as PROOF of our inherent unworthiness and our fundamental badness.
It’s not proof of our being fundamentally bad.
It IS proof that we BELIEVE we’re fundamentally bad.
A Course in Miracles tells us we’re part of God. It tells us, LOVE is what we are.
We’re not bad. We’re perfect Love.
I used to constantly collect evidence of me being bad.
I did it through picking fights with people.
I did it through self-medicating and then feeling like a hopeless loser.
I did it through trying to manipulate and control others.
There were a thousand ways that I felt unworthy of Love, and as a result I was playing small.
Just think of it for a moment: Someone who aspires to be a minister, a spiritual teacher, a Quantum Counselor who is, day in and day out, choosing judgmental attack thoughts, manipulation, resentment, blame and shame – that person is not going to feel worthy of helping others.
Deep in my awareness – you could call it unconscious – I was afraid to be successful. I was afraid to share my voice, because I didn’t want to hurt anyone. It felt better to self-sabotage and play small, and blame it on circumstances. Life was the problem, not my thinking, not my behavior, not me.
But deep down, I was 100% convinced it was my fundamental badness that had me playing small. I was terrified others would see it and I would suffer the shame and humiliation of everyone seeing the full extent of my fundamental badness.
I’m so glad for all of that now, because I don’t feel that way anymore, obviously, that’s why you’re probably reading this right now.
Now, what I can do is help people who would like to have a POWERFUL and SUCCESSFUL spiritual career to eliminate their false beliefs that have them playing small. We can all rise together on this tide of Love.
When I talk with the beautiful folks in my year long course, Masterful Living, they often tell me that trust is a core issue. It makes sense. The same was true for me. This is why in the ACIM Manual for Teachers, in Chapter 4, The Characteristics of God’s Teachers we’re told very clearly that Trust is the #1 characteristic of God’s teachers.
Trust is the bedrock and foundation for undoing the ego identification and restoring to our natural state.
So, we must take the development of trust as our most important priority. And that section in Chapter 4 of the Manual for Teachers is something I recommend to the people in my classes. I invite them to read it once a day for a week and then once a week thereafter. It’s so helpful!
When we say we believe that being honest and trustworthy is important, but then we don’t keep our agreements with ourselves, we don’t feel worthy of trust and Love. It’s that simple.
If we say we’re going to workout tomorrow, call that person later, not have anymore of the brownies, get up early, or whatever it is and then we don’t, we don’t feel trustworthy. And then, you know what we do? We label it bad and wrong, and it becomes more fuel for the funeral pyre of self-hatred. And many of us take all that judgement, roll it up into a ball and throw it at someone else – like the president – and we take all of our self-hatred out on them.
And all that does is delay our healing and happiness.
I had enough of that. I couldn’t stand playing small anymore.
I decided to PROVE that these teachings work and apply them as much as I possibly could.
I decided to REALLY LIVE A Course in Miracles and not just talk about it.
Practicing these lessons daily, walking the talk and living the Love, that’s where the trust and faith are generated from. It ripples throughout my life and brings me happiness each day. If you’d like to some inspiration, check out my podcast episode: Development of Trust. It’s all about healing our trust issues.
My experience of being more and more successful as a spiritual teacher and minister is 100% directly in relationship to my ability to live these teachings, and to have trust and faith. Now, I am so blessed. Just the other day I was crying happy grateful tears because my dream of supporting others in following their passion to be successful teachers and Quantum Counselors is being realized. It’s happening! The counselors are being so helpful, their clients love them and they’re offering classes that are overflowing. Spirit is in charge, and we’re following, because we trust.
Once again, we’re proving that Spirit cannot fail. Only ego fails and ego ALWAYS fails, Spirit never does.
What would your life look like with more trust and faith in Spirit? Would you like to have a lot more successes?
Let’s make the most of every opportunity for our healing and awakening, and remember to laugh when we forget. Every day I offer “My Shot of Spiritual Espresso.” I write spiritual inspiration and record a prayer for our healing. Prayer is a power tool for our liberation. We use technology to transcend time and space, deepen our spiritual practice and connect with each other. Our spiritual practice is our path of liberation. And that’s beautiful to share!
We’re all on a journey of developing trust, and there is so much help for us in the invisible. We are never alone. I Love you and I thank God for you. We bless each other with our willingness to rise in Spirit and come back into our right minds. Together we truly are answering our call to BE the Love. YES!
