Perhaps the single most powerful force in establishing my daily practice of nonjudgment and nonviolence, next to setting the intention itself, is my awareness. Awareness starts with my willingness. It is my basic willingness to be awake and aware that activates the force of the Universe.

Judgment takes me out of willingness.
Awareness takes me into wilingness.
Boredom is the energy it takes to block awareness.

When I am aware I can actually see and feel what is transpiring in and around me. When I become aware that I have been telling myself “that was stupid,” (or whatever mean thing I’ve said to myself) then I can make that next leap to realize that I’m actually being violent in my self-talk. Awareness allows me to realize that when I take offense and become furious that someone cuts me off in traffic I’m only being violent to myself.

The writer Henry Miller said, “The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.”

Today I am willing to be aware. Having set my intention to practice nonjudgment and nonviolence, which is the practice of being loving, I know that cultivating my awareness is the most powerful step in my practice of nonviolence. It is a demonstration of willingness. Willingness is the key that opens the door to all healing. I am committed to being fully aware and so that I can be fully awake and alive to the good that is always available to me if I’m willing to acknowledge it. Somehow I know that I will never be bored again!

Affirmation:

I AM willing to awaken now!
