When I was 16, the summer between junior and senior high school years, my parents took me and my brother to London, Paris and Amsterdam as a family vacation. It was a wonderful and life-changing trip for me. We had a beautiful time and I’ve always been grateful that I had that opportunity to travel with them. It was a big splurge, and because my parents were both teachers and we didn’t have much money, most of it was funded by my grandparents.
Yesterday I arrived in Paris where I’m having a precious few days with my Dad, stepmom and my niece, Olivia. My parents decided a long time ago that when their grandchildren were in the final stage of high school that they would take them on a trip to Europe as an adventure.
My Mom made her transition in 2008, but my Dad has stuck to the plan. My nephew Ben picked London. My nephew Alex picked Spain and Olivia has picked Paris, France. Because of being in the UK it was easy for me to “hop the pond” and come over to have this time with them.
Even though my mother isn’t with us, I feel her presence with us. I feel her Spirit. It doesn’t feel sad to me, it feels like Love. I don’t actually wish she were here because I know that all is well as it is. Now is the time for me to get to know my stepmom better and my niece and to have the experience of Love that is available to us now.
Love is a now thing. It can’t be planned for. We allow Love to lead us and guide us or we don’t. For the next few days I’m allowing Love to lead me all over Paris. In Paris with Love!
