God tricked me

Here’s something that makes perfect sense, but also seems crazy:

I finished my training and was graduated as an Agape Licensed Prayer Practitioner and Quantum Counselor in 2000.  I didn’t initially wish to become a counselor, but that was the only next level of study they had at Agape and I had a desire to keep going with my spiritual classes, study and discovery.

We were told not to enter into the training unless we wished to see clients as counselors.

I never wanted to see clients.

The idea of counseling someone, and having to listen to them tell me about their problems seemed like the exact opposite of anything I’d be interested in.  I did not want to see clients.  I made that very clear to God.

What I did, when I went into the training, was I made a deal with God.

I said, “if you send people to me to be their spiritual counselor I won’t turn them away.  I’ll see them.”  But I didn’t wish to do any counseling.  No.  Thank you, but no.

People started asking me when I’d begin seeing clients before I finished the training.  They just kept coming.  I had to keep my promise.

And that’s how God tricked me.

22 years later I’ve counseled hundred and hundreds of clients.  And I’ve loved them all.  Even when they challenged me.  Now, I teach what I’ve learned in my Spiritual Counseling Training Intensive and it’s one of the very most enjoyable things I get to do because it’s so healing for people.

My counseling clients have helped me to realize how much I know.  They’ve called the greatest wisdom resources to come through me and the learning and growth has been tremendous.

Early on, I decided to truly take to heart my vow as an Agape Practitioner and to not judge my clients.  I decided to truly love them and let them feel it..  That was a turning point in my life.

The Love healed me.
Loving my clients healed my belief that I was unlovable.
My clients believed they were unlovable and by our work together we were both healed.

I learned how profoundly powerful it is to join with another person for a holy purpose.

Unlike a lot of other people, my clients let me love them.  They let me see their vulnerabilities, their shame and their fear and they let me Love them through it.

All that Love pouring through me was deeply nourishing to me and it made me the teacher I am today.

Love is the answer.  It really is.
When we choose to Love others, then the healing happens for all of us.

Becoming a spiritual counselor was one of the very best things I ever decided to do.  It has certainly improved the quality of every day of my life.

The most important thing I’ve learned is that loving someone, and letting them love you, is the very greatest gift there is that can be shared in this world.  It heals us.

Love heals us because it reminds us that Love is what we are.

So, when in doubt, Love.

P.S.  Are you interested in becoming a Quantum Counselor or maybe just developing your relationship skills?  You might be interested in my Spiritual Counseling Training Intensive starting this Friday, November 5.  If you have an interest, but you aren’t sure, you can book a FREE Exploratory Call with one of the Quantum Counselors and they can answer any question you may have.

MY LATEST ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: We’re still challenged to get it uploaded. I hope that will happen today. My topic is Fear & Weakness Transformed. Looking at one of the most basic teachings of A Course in Miracles to help us rise above the battlefield of fear and hopelessness.
