A Course in Miracles talks about a little willingness. Cultivating that little willingness in order to have healing.
What I encourage people to do is to be all-in.
Now, to be all-in for Love is highly confrontive. It’s not for the timid.
All your stuff will come up in your face. And it’s going to be very tempting to say:
“I can’t do this. They don’t deserve my good opinion. They don’t deserve my Love. They don’t deserve my good forgiveness.”
Here’s what it says in The Holy Spirit’s Plan of Forgiveness:
“Accept as true only what your brother is, if you would know yourself.”
The only way we can wake up is to recognize that our brothers and sisters are One with us.
They are pure Love, just like we are. And every experience we have is gently planned by One Whose only interest is our good. That takes tremendous willingness.
That’s why I say go past willingness into commitment, dedication and devotion.
You know what? That’s hard work. It’s very challenging. For me it was the hardest thing I ever did. To hold myself in that place of Love and nonjudgment in the relationships that were the most challenging to me.
The judgments would come up, and I’d start to energize them, and I’d have to pull myself back. I was so interested in those judgments. So invested in them.
I felt like my whole life was about those judgments. Without them, I did not know my identity.
I was that identified with the ego. I thought those judgments were necessary to my happiness, to my safety, so the very thought of letting them go was painful to me.
The actual letting them go was excruciating at first.
The first try is the hard one.
But here’s one of the great things A Course in Miracles tells us. You don’t have to believe this.
Don’t worry about believing it.
Just keep doing it. Just keep exercising that willingness muscle.
I do believe there are a lot of us right now who can say, “I can go beyond willingness. I can throw down the gauntlet and say I am committed to Love. My judgments and opinions don’t serve me anymore, and I’m interested in ridding my whole mind of that.”
I may not know exactly how to do that. I’m going to allow the Holy Spirit to do the heavy lifting, and I’m going to simply become aware of every time I’m tempted to energize a judgment.
If fear has been the thing that keeps you at willing rather than all-in, our Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual bootcamp program opens this fall, and that’s the exact edge we work on together.
One of the most tempting places we invest in the judgments that sabotage us is in relationship unforgiveness.
Right there. That’s a major wound we can heal with such speed.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE: What To Do When Someone Blames You. A family member got upset with me and told me it was my fault. I didn’t attack back. I didn’t defend myself. I didn’t need him to admit he was wrong, and I didn’t make him wrong either. What I felt toward him instead is the part I’m still grateful for. Chapter 29 of A Course in Miracles. The gap between you and your brother.
