How do we become the spiritual leader of our family? Not by preaching. Not by analyzing. Not by discussing theology at the dinner table.

By healing our own mind.

A Course in Miracles Chapter 7 tells us: “The extension of God’s being is spirit’s only function. Its fullness cannot be contained any more than can the fullness of its Creator. Fullness is extension.”

It’s our nature to extend and to share – because that’s what God is. That’s what God does. Everything we’re thinking and feeling is being shared in the oneness of all life. When we follow our spiritual purpose to be truly helpful, we’re extending the fullness of God’s Love naturally.

People in my Masterful Living Program are often surprised to learn that I don’t talk about spirituality with my family. Hardly ever. I go on vacations with them. I have the holidays with them. I’m involved with them. But I don’t discuss these teachings with them. They aren’t interested.

The members of my family rarely ask questions about my work, which might be surprising considering how much I love my work and what I get to do. I’m interested in all of their careers and interests. I’m interested in people generally. It doesn’t matter to me that they’re not interested in my work. I talk about my work all day, for hours and hours – in classes, meetings, podcasts, blogs, etc. I’m fully expressed. I’m actually glad for a rest in talking when I’m with my family. I mostly listen. I’m so peaceful and content with my family most of the time.

The healing happens at the level of the mind – and it ripples out to everyone around us.

I used to have awful arguments with the people in my family. I was picking fights. I was blaming them for how I felt. I didn’t understand that my thoughts and my beliefs were causing my pain. I didn’t know that I was getting triggered all the time so that I would start healing it.

Now it’s been years since I’ve had one of those arguments. The healing I’ve experienced is miraculous – and I never, ever would have imagined it was possible. AND I’ve seen the dynamics of my whole family change because I changed my mind about myself – and about them.

When we commit to healing our own consciousness, the whole family heals. We don’t have to talk about it with them. We just hold the fort of our own consciousness, and it naturally ripples out. The people closest to us derive the greatest benefit.

“The full appreciation of the mind’s self-fullness makes selfishness impossible and extension inevitable. This is why there is perfect Peace in the Kingdom.”

Self-fullness makes selfishness impossible. When we’re truly full – truly experiencing the fullness of God as our life and being – sharing becomes as natural as breathing.

If we have a willingness to be that fulcrum point of healing in our family, that willingness isn’t from ego. It’s not about being better than everyone. I tried spiritual superiority for a long time. I went through all of that. Now I’m happy with oneness. Total oneness. That’s what I’m interested in.

It’s not grandiose to say, “I’m on a mission to really heal my mind so that all of humanity can heal too.” That’s actually our function.

The key is this: don’t judge how we’re doing in the moment. We fell off our seat? We get right back on. No shame, no blame. We hit the reboot button. Holy Spirit, back to the basics – Love, kindness, patience, caring.

We start where we are. It’s always a good time to begin again.

Our personality doesn’t have what it takes – and it never could.

Spirit has what it takes, and Spirit is just requiring our willingness.

Let’s make this year a new beginning. Let’s lay the foundation for an extraordinary, unlimited awakening experience that we’re sharing with everyone – and most especially our loved ones.

If we’re willing, Spirit will do it through us, as us, with us. Spirit goes before us, behind us, above us, below us, beside us, in all things.

My Family Liberation Deep Dive Workshop on Saturday, June 13 is a sacred opportunity to do this deep family healing work together – to become the fulcrum point of healing for our family, not by talking about it, but by living it.

We can do this. It’s happening, and it’s happening now!
