I’d like to ask parents and grandparents – anyone who has the opportunity to be with children – to help the children remember that they are not a body. It’s not hard to do, but we do have to pay attention and it will help us too.
For instance, instead of saying “I have a sore throat,” we can say, “my body has a sore throat.”
Now, that might seem like it would take some getting used to, but if we decide that’s what we’d like to do, we can definitely do it.
It also might seem weird, as though now we’re aliens come from a different world.
It might start conversations, and invite questions.
Wouldn’t that be great?
I’ve been starting to say “my body” instead of “I”.
Since I’m not my body, and my body is a thing in this world different than me, that I love, it makes sense to stop referring to it as myself when it’s not who or what I am. I AM that I AM.
If we’d like to have more clarity, and have a healthier perspective of our body experiences, we need to shift our identification with the body.
This change in description will really help anchor that.
Let’s remember to laugh. It could even be kind of funny: “I just took my body out for a long walk.” “I’m going to give my body a bath now.”
Playing around with how we speak about our body and how we speak about ourselves will help us become more aware of our identification with the body and the opportunities to shift that, which can only be helpful.
Let’s make a quantum leap together.
