When I first started my A Course in Miracles Podcast, I interviewed author Ken Wapnick. What a great experience that was! He’s an inspiration to so many and I felt blessed to have him as a guest on one of the very first episodes of my radio show.

Ken and I discussed how we handle the ego thoughts when they come up.

I told him that I say to myself “I’m not interested in that anymore.” In fact, I have a whole healing process that I do to heal those ego thoughts and temptations and it has been miraculously healing for me – if you listen to my podcast or any of my free classes you’ll hear me share about it frequently because it has has profoundly changed my life.

Some days I had to say to the ego “I’m not interested in that anymore” 100 times a day – at least! And yet the good news is, finally, eventually, I would get to the place where I really WAS done with it. Totally done. It was then that I could let the thought leave my mind and be free of it. Phew!

A true and honest willingness was required – a willingness not just to have a healing, but to release the thought that was blocking the flow of Love because I no longer valued it.

Ken Wapnick shared with me that he quotes Shakespeare’s King Lear to himself.  He says, “That way madness lies.” Which reminded me that I also will say “Get thee behind me.”

I’ve been a fan of Shakespeare since I was nine years old.  I was a theatre major at Emerson College in Boston and I worked at the New York Shakespeare Festival for quite a few years. I thought it would fun to look up the passage in Shakespeare that Ken was quoting. It’s really gorgeous and I thought you would enjoy it too!

KING LEAR:
Thou think’st ’tis much that this contentious storm
Invades us to the skin: so ’tis to thee;
But where the greater malady is fix’d,
The lesser is scarce felt. Thou’ldst shun a bear;
But if thy flight lay toward the raging sea,
Thou’ldst meet the bear i’ the mouth. When the
mind’s free,
The body’s delicate: the tempest in my mind
Doth from my senses take all feeling else
Save what beats there. Filial ingratitude!
Is it not as this mouth should tear this hand
For lifting food to’t? But I will punish home:
No, I will weep no more. In such a night
To shut me out! Pour on; I will endure.
In such a night as this! O Regan, Goneril!
Your old kind father, whose frank heart gave all,–
O, that way madness lies; let me shun that;
No more of that.

Having these simple statements to use in order to change the habits of the mind is so valuable. It’s made a world of difference to me – and because of that, I’m able to share my gifts and talents with the world in ways that are profoundly fulfilling for me and helpful to others.  And this is what I wish for others to be able to do too.  That’s why many of our programs are in support of spiritual students who’d like to have professional careers as spiritual counselors, prayer practitioners and teachers.

Deepening our spiritual practice is SO VALUABLE.

It’s not about more time spent studying.  It’s about more investment in healing.  Because of my spiritual practice, I can do this work I love so much instead of going around in circles trying to figure out how to make things happen.

Let’s learn to say “no more of that” or, as I prefer, “I’m not interested in that anymore.”  Sometimes I say, “I’ve learned all there is to learn from that, and I’m done with it.”

Our willingness truly is all that’s required in order for us to let go and move on.  The Higher Holy Spirit Self will do the heavy lifting of figuring out how to let go if we’re willing.  Now is the time of our liberation!  Go for it!
