Happy Father’s Day!

One of the big complaints some people have, and it can lead to chronic depression faster than we might realize, is that “life isn’t fair.”

On the surface, there’s no question that life doesn’t seem fair.  It would be foolish to even try to argue it.

However, we’re not of this world, and our justice is sometimes invisible to the personality.

“The miracle that you receive, you give. Each one becomes an illustration of the law on which salvation rests; that justice must be done to all, if anyone is to be healed.”  A Course in Miracles, T-25.IX.10.

The miracle we receive is the one we give.  That’s a beautiful justice.

In life, there’s a lot that seems unfair, and we can let it bother us, we can do something about it, or we can be unbothered and unmoved.  Those are some of the main choices we have.

If our response to our perception of unfairness is to wish to punish or retaliate, it’s good to let that come to the surface of our awareness and turn it over to the Higher Holy Spirit Self for healing lest it ferment in our consciousness and lead to resentment.

Life doesn’t appear to be fair.

It doesn’t APPEAR to be fair.
However, God, and our life in God, as God, is always going to be fair whether we can see it or not.

If we allow the perception of unfairness to become resentment, then we’re choosing to make ourselves miserable when we really don’t have to.  We just have to be honestly willing to put Spirit in charge and see life from above the battleground.

I think of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his thoughts on this topic:

“We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long and bends towards justice.”

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.  We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.  Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent on things that matter.”

“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people, but not for all people.”

“We need leaders not in love with money, but in love with justice, not in love with publicity, but in love with humanity.”

Those are some of my favorite quotes from King.  He thoroughly inspires me.

Instead of sitting down and stewing about life not being fair, let’s open our mind to see how Divine Justice is unfolding and seek to be a part of that unfoldment.

As a spiritual counselor, I work with so many people who have been treated unfairly, people who have been intensely traumatized as children – raped, beaten, imprisoned, tortured, terrified – so much trauma.  And yet justice as we might view it isn’t available.

What is available is Freedom.  Freedom to not dwell in the past and to take that suffering and turn it into something very fulfilling and worthwhile.

Many of the spiritual counselors and folks that are in our programs and in our trainings who’ve been deeply traumatized have grown so much, have learned so much that they’re now helping many others.

Because of what these brave souls experienced and how they’ve grown, they have the wisdom, understanding and compassion to support many in liberating from the past and finding the deep wellspring of Joy that is in each of us.  That’s a blessing.  It’s big.  It’s profound.

That’s such fulfilling work.  I don’t feel there’s anything more fulfilling I can imagine.

It’s so helpful to recognize and never doubt that God’s justice is perfect Peace, Freedom, Love without conditions and Joy that’s not circumstantial.  These are the gifts of the kingdom and when life feels unfair, as it often does, we can go within and find the perfection there.

When we can forgive ourselves for the meaning we made of the past, and the suffering that caused us, we can liberate from the pain of the past and discover true Freedom.  It’s so worth it.  That’s why in this ministry we offer free forgiveness workshops.
