One of the things that’s changed for me over the years is that I can feel close to people even when they’re far away and I don’t miss them when they’re not close.

Of course, when we live with people and we get used to having them intertwined in our daily lives, and then when they’re away, or they’re no longer with us on the earth plane, that can feel different because there can be a sense of absence (or possibly relief).

I know that so often now, I feel completely connected to folks I hardly talk with or spend time with.  While they’re not with me and around, I don’t miss them.

Sometimes I feel that I miss spending time with a person or a group, but I don’t miss the people.  For instance, I could easily say I miss playing board games with my loved ones and enjoying that playful time because we don’t live near to each other, but I don’t miss the people because I feel connected.

A Course in Miracles beautifully reminds us that we’re always connected:

“As long as you perceive the body as your reality, so long will you perceive yourself as lonely and deprived.

In the holy instant the condition of love is met, for minds are joined without the body’s interference, and where there is communication there is peace.  The Prince of Peace was born to re-establish the condition of love by teaching that communication remains unbroken even if the body is destroyed, provided that you see not the body as the necessary means of communication.”  ACIM, T-15.XI.

We communicate at the level of the body.  According to ACIM, the body is a communication device.  And yet, we also communicate at the level of the mind.  The body can only communicate what the mind is thinking.  The body has no mind of its own.

For some, perhaps, missing people is a habit we’re taught.

Some may believe that if they’re not missed when they’re gone they’re not really loved.  And we may think that we owe it to our loved ones to miss them.  These are ego thoughts that can be so ingrained we don’t even realize we’re thinking them.

One of the things about the ego is it is a thought system of lack.  Always lack.  Because it’s all about being cut off from source.  So, let’s not proliferate the belief in lack and say things like, “did you miss me?”

Perhaps it would be nice to hear someone say, “I love being with you, I’m glad you’re here” rather than, “I missed you.”

To me, these ways of holding things in our mind is how we can refine the ways we truly live A Course in Miracles and set ourselves free from lack.

Let’s make a quantum leap together.

LATEST  PODCAST EPISODE: my podcast’s topic is Redemption & Revenge.  Repeating patterns of thoughts, emotions, conversations and experiences playout in our lives.  Often the repeating patterns feel like a burden we cannot get out from under.  Revenge and redemption are two such patterns that leave us feeling weak and disabled.  In this episode, I share a practical way to get out of the weight of these vicious cycles and patterns.  The Higher Holy Spirit Self lifts us high when we’re willing!
