We had some rain on our Camino walk and we all experienced it in different ways. I brought with me some cheap plastic ponchos that could fit over our backpacks and our other rain gear and they worked perfectly. I paper clipped my poncho to my hat and it kept the rain out of my face.
On this trip I brought with me a couple of pairs of new cargo pants. I’d never had cargo pants in my life prior to this trip, but many peeps had said that cargo pants were helpful on the trail and they were. These pants were so lightweight they were great on a hot day. On a wet day they dried so fast I couldn’t believe it.
As God would have it, the shoes I brought really did an amazing job at keeping the water out. My wool socks did a great job of keeping my feet warm and mostly dry and that was a big blessing. Some of our group started off early, in the dark, when the rain was pelting and punishing. They walked hard and fast and got thoroughly soaked, and they seemed to love the adventure of it!
Groups of walkers set out at different times. Some people were leaving later, waiting for the rain to lighten up and some just wanted to get out and get through it. To each their own. That was the way no matter what the weather. Some wished to get to the next town as early as possible to beat the heat most days. Some were fast walkers and some were slow walkers.

On Friday – our one and only day with rain while we walked, Gina, Bernadette (see pic above) and I set off later than most of our group and the rain wasn’t very intense at any time. I was glad I’d brought enough ponchos to share with others. Getting all our gear on, backpacks, raincoats, ponchos, hats, etc, took a minute and it took help from others.
It was funny to see ourselves in our rain gear. It reminded me of when I was a little one heading off to school on a snowy day and my Mom and I would take so long getting all the layers just right. At the end when we were finally ready, I gave Bernadette a kiss on the cheek and said, “have a good day at school and play nice with the other children!”
Our strategy was to stop in a cafe if it got intense and that strategy worked. We figured we could stop for coffee as often as needed. We’d arrive in a cafe (as we did on most days) just as others from our group were having a drink and a snack and have mini-reunions throughout the day.
It was lovely the way we’d all keep meeting up and shifting into different groups throughout the days of walking.
On our rainy day those who left later were rewarded with a much easier day and not so much wet.
Although everyone but me seemed to have mesh shoes that got thoroughly soaked so they had to walk with wet feet all day. I’d remembered that Karen Carothers had recommended that we bring a 2nd pair of socks each day and I knew I’d need them in the rain. It was lovely to switch to dry socks half way through.

Every day, A Course in Miracles teaches me how to live a happier life.
The teaching of “letting things be neutral” is completely life changing when we actually live it. It’s profound.
This journey of pilgrimage, and walking the Camino is one of learning to let things be neutral. When we can let it be neutral that it’s hot, or raining then we have a much better time. If we can let it be neutral that our feet ache or our back is tired, then we can have the eyes to see the beauty all around and the ears to hear the inspiration that Spirit is always, ALWAYS offering.
When we can let it be neutral that there’s no bathroom and we have to pee in the woods, or that we left our favorite hat at the last stop and we’re not going back for it no matter how much we love it. If we can let it be neutral that we lost a shoe and now we have one good shoe and one less good shoe, then we can have Peace of mind and that’s EVERYTHING.
This is what Camino is for – it’s all about what we leave behind. It’s for leaving behind the critical, complaining, judging, meaning making mind in order to find true and lasting Freedom.
As I wrote about yesterday, more often, people believe that Freedom isn’t possible for them. People usually believe that spiritual practice works for others, but not for them – and it’s simply not true.
Spiritual practice works for those who apply it. That’s the one and only “secret” to it.
Reading about spiritual practice isn’t a spiritual practice, and that’s why it’s not healing. Spiritual practice is working with the mind and connecting with the Infinite Intelligence that is our Godself. That’s what’s healing. It can’t be faked and it can’t fail.
The beautiful beings on the Camino Adventure with me have been sharing their breakthroughs and revelations and it’s wonderful. I feel so blessed that I get to share in their Joy and that we did it together.
Would you like to leave the pain of the past behind?
TODAY – My Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual bootcamp with ACIM Principles starts TODAY, Monday, Oct 16!
This is one of my most popular programs and it won’t be offered again for at least a year.
If you’d like support in doing this work of undoing the habit of withholding Love and punishing the yourself and others, please consider taking my Finding Freedom From Fear spiritual bootcamp and joining with other like-minded souls who are doing the same work. I find that when we do the work together we get there faster and we laugh a lot more. It’s so much easier when we peel the layers of painful patterns together. Easier, faster, more Love, more Light, more fun, that’s the way for me!
My Finding Freedom From Fear Bootcamp is about being able to practice going the other way, changing our mind and being more interested in the truth than our perceptions.
In Finding Freedom From Fear, we’re devoted to clearing away the resentments and regrets in order to receive intuition, insight, Divine Guidance, and inspiration more clearly than ever before. It’s the VERY best gift we can give to ourselves and we get to share it with everyone because all minds are joined.. This healing requires that we give up the judgments that block our intuition. This is the practice that allows us to expand into a life of perfect Love! Come join me and let’s finish the year together brilliantly!
Spiritual Liberation, that’s what finding freedom is really about.
