There’s a sentence in A Course in Miracles that brings great relief from stress:
“Focus your mind only on this: I am not alone, and I would not intrude the past upon my Guest. I have invited Him, and He is here. I need do nothing except not to interfere.”
Read that last line slowly.
I need do nothing except not to interfere.
When we go into judgments and opinions about a person or a situation, that’s interference. That’s the fact of it.
We look at someone’s life and think, that’s a terrible situation they have going on there. Those judgments are attack thoughts. And if we’re in judgment of people, believing we know what’s best for them, believing we know what should be happening and what shouldn’t be, when we honestly do not know, we’ve got a real challenge.
We do not know what’s best for other people.
It takes humility to recognize that.
We cannot know how to respond to what we do not understand. And when we’re looking through the ego thought system, we don’t understand what’s really going on, or what things are really for.
So let’s step gently aside and let the healing be done for us.
Give the Holy Spirit the heavy lifting.
Give the Holy Spirit the guidance. The healing. The transformation.
Let’s stop trying to do it on our own.
Trying to do it on our own is self-sabotage – there’s no need. Why leave God out?
The Holy Spirit’s function is not our function. Our function is not to do the healing, but to allow the healing. Our function is not to figure out what needs to be done. The Holy Spirit already knows. Our Higher Holy Spirit Self already knows.
This is why I say it over and over again. If you’re trying to figure it out, if you’re trying to make sense of it, just stop. Rest your mind.
Trying to understand things while identified with the ego thought system is a fool’s errand.
Give that responsibility to the Holy Spirit, so the Holy Spirit can respond and work through you.
Be in that place of true surrender. That’s where the healing comes from.
If you’ve spent years carrying what isn’t yours to carry, my Deep Dive Workshop, How to Stop Absorbing Other People’s Pain, is the practice of laying it down. I’d love to have you with me, if you’d like.
We step aside. Love steps in.
Just starting!: End My Self-Sabotage 6-Week Program just began yesterday – you can jump in now. Self-sabotage is designed to slow down our spiritual growth. But what if I told you that we can dissolve that pattern? When you recognize the pattern, you can interrupt it. And when you interrupt it with Love instead of willpower, everything changes. I used to struggle with self-medication and other forms of self-sabotage, but that’s behind me now – if you can relate – let’s do it together! Click here to learn more.
NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Where the Love is Now What if what’s keeping us from love isn’t what happened to us, but where we keep looking for it? I’m just back from our counseling intensive in Asheville, and I opened A Course in Miracles to Chapter 13 to a line I still find astonishing. It doesn’t tell us to release the past. It tells us we can’t see it at all. So what are we looking at, every time we’re upset? I’ll be honest with you about the years I taught forgiveness before I was willing to forgive, and about the wall I kept hitting without understanding why. And I’ll share what I do now with the hardest seasons of my life. It asks almost nothing of us, and I didn’t believe it could work either.
