I used to get so easily offended.  In fact, I used to look for things to take offense about and there were always so many.  Mentally and emotionally I was constantly seething and being offended was a good way to vent and let off some steam so that I didn’t just explode with anger.

What I didn’t know then was that usually when someone takes offense it’s an indicator of just how insecure they are in their personality.

People who are secure and assured don’t usually take offense.

They shrug and move on.

When we Love and respect ourselves we don’t wish to put ourselves through the drama of taking offense because we know how much effort it requires and it doesn’t bring us any benefit.  Taking offense is an act of hubris, and those who are witness to it know that, even if they don’t articulate it.

Recently I was at Lisa Natoli and Bill Free’s house with my dog and cat, Bodhi and Sattva.  Sattva got into a big of an encounter with their cats.  Both cats puffed up.  I saw Sattva make himself look bigger, including his tail, in order to be more intimidating – and that’s what people who are insecure and taking offense do.

It’s perfectly understandable.

And, it’s also an illusion.

I used to feel insecure and cover it up with taking offense, but it doesn’t work.

I couldn’t have identified it clearly at the time, but I’d just feel more “wrong and bad” when I was taking offense and putting out those harsh negative vibes.  It was all part of the ego’s pattern of repeating a past hell.

I’m glad to be relieved of that (for the most part) now.  What a load off.  The Freedom I feel is worth everything I’ve invested in getting here.  If I had to do everything over again ten times in order to stay in this sense of Peace and Freedom, I would.  Fortunately I don’t have to go back there, ever.

When others are offended, now, I can offer compassion and hold them in my mind with Love.  That’s wonderful.  And it’s also healing for all.

Seek not to change the one who’s offended, but instead to see them correctly.
