My first job was at an amusement park, making change. Later I waited tables. Some of those jobs I resented. They felt menial.

Yet they gave me an opportunity I’m still grateful for. I realized I could improve the quality of someone’s day just by how I treated them in that moment.

Many people feel sad or depressed because their work doesn’t fulfill them. We tend to think fulfillment comes from the work itself. It doesn’t.

It comes from the Love we do it with.

When we give our time and energy only to get money, it won’t fulfill us. That’s giving to get, and the ego’s bargains never satisfy. Sometimes we even hold our work as a sacrifice: I’m giving up time with my family to put in this overtime. That’s where the resentment and regret creep in.

A Course in Miracles tells us, “We who are one cannot give separately.”

Whatever we give, the whole Sonship is giving. A kind word to a telemarketer, patience with a customer service person, a gentle tone when we’re frustrated, all of it is shared.

At Power of Love Ministry, we offer many free classes as well as paid ones, and there’s a lot of customer service involved. Sometimes people treat our customer service team with anger and disrespect, even over a free class. Our team is trained to know it’s a cry for Love. They aren’t there because it’s a job. They’re there because they feel called to be helpful. I love that about us.

I’ll be honest. I’ve been the person with the customer service issue, trying to lay guilt on someone for not doing a better job. I’ve also seen amazing turnarounds in myself, in my ability to be loving, kind, and gentle in those very moments.

That’s so fulfilling.

I love seeing the shifts and changes in my own heart.

Where in our work are we giving to get? Where are we holding our effort as a sacrifice? Each of those places is an invitation to bring our whole heart instead.

If you’d like to practice releasing the guilt we lay on ourselves and on others, my FREE Forgiveness Workshop is a wonderful place to join us, where we clear it away together.

Every moment of work can be a moment of Love.  And that makes every day fulfilling. How cool is that?

If you feel guilty about anything then come join me for my Free Forgiveness workshop on Monday, October 12th – Indigenous People’s Day.  We’ll work on it together and have a miraculous healing.  Click here now to learn more.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE: Make No Decisions by Yourself So many of us carefully choose our days and still end them feeling disappointed. We weigh the options, even ask for guidance, and then the answer feels wrong. A student’s breakthrough and a friend’s reminder brought me back to Chapter 30, Section I of A Course in Miracles. You’ll discover what a neighbor home from the hospital and a party that fell flat reveal, why a small tightening in my stomach mattered, and the surprising reason inner guidance can feel like an attack.
