What’s the most loving thing?
That’s the question I trained myself to ask in all kinds of situations. I don’t really need to ask that anymore, because I don’t have a lot of unloving thoughts like I used to.
I used to be ruled by thoughts related to feeling like a victim, endless judgments, thoughts of revenge, obsessively reviewing the past, fear of the future, thinking I wasn’t good enough and that something was wrong with me. Most of my thoughts were unloving.
Asking myself the question: “What’s the most loving choice I can see?” was super helpful to me in breaking the “spell” of unloving thoughts and beliefs in lack and limitation.
The mind-training that I learned from the Science of Mind teachings of Ernest Holmes as well as A Course in Miracles, plus working with the nonviolent teachings of Jesus, Gandhi and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. all combined into the transforming and renewing of my mind.
Now, I’m focused on the loving thoughts without effort.
There are so many benefits to doing this focused work that it’s crazy that everyone isn’t doing it. What I see is that people are still so convinced that their happiness comes from the world that they’re mostly focused on using their time, energy, attention and resources in trying to change the world, make it better, make it do what they want it to do.
By “the world,” I mean people, finances, bodies, health, our homes, and families – everything but our mind.
That way is a lose-lose proposition.
Everyone’s goal is Peace and happiness. The world teaches us that Peace and happiness come from being able to line up everything in our life the way we think will make us happy.
While that’s what the world teaches us, the world demonstrates that it doesn’t work. Hence we have celebrities who have everything: fame, fortune, beauty, talent, relationships, etc. and they still are so miserable they take their own life.
What I see in my life, in the programs we offer at the Power of Love Ministry, is people finding true Peace and happiness through doing these practices working at the level of the mind. People who listen to my A Course in Miracles podcast tell me this all the time. I get a steady stream of positive feedback – and, of course, there’s my own experience that is the best feedback of all.
I used to get triggered all day every day without exception.
My mind was filled with negative thinking. I believed all of it.
I always thought I was right about how wrong everything was, including me.
Most especially me.
Interrupting the patterns of those thoughts became my number one objective.
I somehow came to believe that was the way out of my own personal hell.
I knew it had to start with Love.
The first Real step in my spiritual growth came when I decided to make loving myself the #1 focus of my life.
It was the first brilliant decision I ever made. It began to shift my energy, vibration and attention. The more I shifted, the more I healed, the more I could see what I wasn’t willing to see before.
Willingness is everything.
I had the willingness to love myself.
I don’t mean loving my body – definitely not that.
And it wasn’t about loving my personality – though I’ve come to appreciate it and to help it grow.
I am not a body, but I have one.
I am not my personality, but I have one.
I began to love my Self with a capital S. That Higher Holy Spirit Self.
“When the ego was made, God placed in the mind the Call to joy. This Call is so strong that the ego always dissolves at Its sound. That is why you must choose to hear of two voices within you. One you made yourself, and that one is not of God. But the other is given you by God, Who asks you only to listen to it. The Holy Spirit is in you in a very literal sense.” ACIM T-V,II,3.
The Holy Spirit is within us.
We can remember how to listen to that one voice.
It’s not hard to learn, but it takes real attention and great willingness, and nothing is more worthwhile.
I don’t go on wild goose chases anymore. I follow direct insight and inspiration to the highest and best choices in my life. I feel free every day. My Peace increases every day. I don’t worry, because I know that I’m not making important decisions from my personality.
EVERYTHING in my life has changed for the better.
I invite you to make one decision – to be willing to be loving of your Self, your holiness, your beauty and magnificence and to appreciate it every single day.
It might seem hard to give up negative self-talk, but it’s not. It just requires REAL willingness to give up being a victim and to take responsibility for your life, your decisions and to hand it over, to give it UP to the Higher Holy Spirit Self for healing and stop struggling with it on our own.
For me, that was something I avoided for a long time, but when I discovered the gift that taking full responsibility brings, the gift of Freedom, I became a convert. Handing it over was such a relief. I’m just so glad that A Course in Miracles told me the way and I listened to that voice.
My Self-Love Workshop is March 17th – let’s launch into spring with love! Love is the great healer of EVERYTHING and we can actually love ourselves free of the past and the pain.
