In life, we often run from the truth. We evade and avoid an honest recognition of the truth. We often feel that the truth will be too painful and unbearable, and, to the ego, sometimes it is.
What’s amazing to me is how often the truth brings relief. When we can recognize what’s been right in front of us all along, that thing that we’ve been avoiding so intensely, and simply call it out, it can be a huge relief.
This can occur in many things.
It can apply to someone finally being willing to recognize that they can’t afford their mortgage and they need to get out from under it rather than just work harder to earn the money.
It can apply to being willing to admit the person we think we love so much doesn’t actually love us at all – it’s all pretend.
It can apply to feeling entitled to belittle and harass someone and finally realizing they don’t deserve it, and we can apologize.
Taking responsibility for our actions, choices, words, thoughts and feelings puts us back in touch with our spiritual power and that feels like a relief. It’s SO VERY DIFFICULT to live disconnected from the source of our power and to delude ourselves into resentments and regrets instead of taking responsibility.
So often we can feel trapped by what’s happening in our life – we feel backed into corners where the choices are between two things we’d like to avoid. It becomes the “lesser of evils.” And then we’re stuck feeling like a victim of circumstance, but we never actually are. We’ve made decisions that led us to the place we’re in.
Releasing all blame, taking responsibility, surrendering our judgments, this is the path back to Self-respect and Self-care. It doesn’t seem like it would be, but it is, and that’s a relief too.
I’ve learned that I’d rathe be responsible for a mess than feel like a victim.
We’re abdicating the power of God within us when we choose to see ourselves as victims.
It’s always a new day and a new opportunity to turn our ship around and move out of playings mall, victimhood, and to recognize how much of life is for us when we’re willing to remember that our the power of God is already ours and we can honor that.
