Let’s be honest about something.

We so often think we know what the miracle will be – or should be.

We think the miracle is that the mortgage gets paid. That the bankruptcy doesn’t happen. That she doesn’t leave him and they stay married for many more years. That she isn’t fired and gets to keep the job for another twenty years.

We think the miracle is that the cancer is healed.

We have no idea what the miracle is. We just do not know.

And when our opinion comes through, looking at what’s happening through the lens of the past, that’s not faith. That’s the ego thought system wearing a prayer shawl.

A Course in Miracles is very direct here. It tells us not to substitute OUR miracle for the REAL one.

So what is the miracle?

The miracle is when we’re willing to align with the Holy Spirit and think in alignment with the Holy Spirit. To draw on that strength. To let the Holy Spirit extend perfect insight, wisdom, clarity, transmutation, transformation, and healing through us, by training us to see the situation correctly.

That’s the healing we can bring into our experience.

Notice the shift.

We’re not asked to have empathy for people’s pain and suffering. We’re asked to have empathy with the Holy Spirit, and stand in the place of strength.

We’re the learner. The Holy Spirit is the teacher.

Let’s not confuse the roles.

We don’t teach the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to explain what a terrible situation this is and bring God in to fix it. We don’t bring the light to the darkness.

We bring the darkness to the light. We bring the dark spots in our mind to the light.

That’s how we become the happy learner.

Here’s what happens when we get it backwards.

When we look at someone and think, it’s terrible what’s happening to them, and we move into that negative use of empathy, we’re making their suffering seem so real.

That isn’t helpful to them.

That’s the total opposite of being truly helpful.

A Course in Miracles says the meaning of love is lost in any relationship that looks to weakness and hopes to find love there. If we’re looking at someone and seeing weakness, seeing a problem, we’re not looking with eyes of love. We’re not going to find love there.

Then it says something that named my entire ministry.

The power of love, which is its meaning, lies in the strength of God that hovers over it and blesses it silently by enveloping it in healing wings.

Let this be. Just let it be.

And do not try to substitute your miracle for this.

So this is our part. To empathize with the Holy Spirit. To draw from the Holy Spirit’s strength. To step gently aside and let the healing be done for us.

Keep one thought in mind, and don’t lose sight of it, however tempted we may be to judge a situation and determine our response by judging it.

True empathy is aligning with the strength of the Holy Spirit and seeing that there are no problems. There’s only the illusion of the problem of separation.

This is our healing. This is how we rejoice.

It takes practice. It takes willingness and practice. Practice, practice, practice.

Our spiritual practice isn’t a few minutes in the morning, or even an hour or two. It’s what we do all day long. It’s what we do when things become difficult. When it feels like there’s pressure. When it feels like the fit is hitting the shan.

That’s when our spiritual practice brings a healing.

That kind of moment-by-moment mind training is exactly what we live together, week by week, in my Masterful Living Program.

This learning has been so liberating to me. So happy-making. It makes life so much easier.

And I love that we get to share it together.

End My Self-Sabotage 6-Week Program begins Sunday, June 28th. Self-sabotage is designed to slow down our spiritual growth. But what if I told you that we can dissolve that pattern? When you recognize the pattern, you can interrupt it. And when you interrupt it with Love instead of willpower, everything changes. I used to struggle with self-medication and other forms of self-sabotage, but that’s behind me now – if you can relate – let’s do it together! Click here to learn more.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE: Learning to Trust Yourself with Author Tama Kieves  My friend Tama Kieves wrote the book on trust I wish I’d had years ago. She’s a Harvard Law honors graduate who walked away from her law career with no plan and no money, following a single voice toward the life that was actually hers. We sat down to talk about her new book, Learning to Trust Yourself, and the thing nearly every A Course in Miracles student wrestles with: how do we tell the voice of love from the voice of fear?
