“When you unite with me, you are uniting without the ego.”
These words from Jesus in ACIM would have been a trigger to me in the past. Why? Because I would have thought uniting with Him meant no more fun, no more pleasure, no more LIFE.
I was so wrong.
The Fear That Keeps Us Stuck
Let’s be real. Most of us resist joining with Jesus/Spirit/Higher Self because we think it means:
- No more wine
- No more sex
- No more binge-watching our favorite shows
- Basically, no more anything that brings us comfort or pleasure
I lived in this kind of fear for YEARS. I’d go to spiritual workshops, feel amazing, then race home to get drunk because I was terrified of maintaining that high vibration.
The Truth That Sets You Free
Here’s what nobody told me: God’s will for you includes pleasure! It includes joy! It includes PERFECT HAPPINESS!
What it doesn’t include? Being a sinner. That’s the only thing that has to go-the belief that you’re bad, wrong, or unworthy.
What Joining Actually Looks Like
When I finally said, “Jesus, I’m putting you in charge,” here’s what happened:
- The wine became less interesting than the Peace – far less enjoyable too
- Relationships became holy instead of painful
- Even my “guilty pleasures” transformed into simple pleasures I could enjoy without guilt
I didn’t give up anything. The stuff I was hurting myself with just fell away naturally.
The Practice of Union
Try this: Next time you’re at a choice point, instead of white-knuckling through temptation, simply say, “Jesus, I join with you. I’m interested in what we would choose together.”
No sacrifice. No struggle. Just joining.
Your Journey to Joy
This is the journey we take together in Masterful Living-discovering that joining with Spirit doesn’t diminish your life. It explodes it into technicolor.
You can still enjoy your ice cream. You can still make love. You can still laugh at silly movies. But you’ll do it all from a place of worthiness, not seeking worth.
The ego tells you joining means sacrifice. Jesus says joining means freedom.
