March is the month that both my mother and my best friend, Kay made their transition. This month we also have Easter on the last day, so the preciousness of life is very much on my mind.
I’d like to share with you this great quote from Apple founder, Steve Jobs from not too long before he passed away:
“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering you are going to die is the best way I know to stop thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”
You and I have both heard, so many times, that saying “Live every day as if it’s your last.” And we both know that it’s usually not our last day, so that’s not how we live. Do you find yourself living as if today is just another day. Where the stakes aren’t that high? My question is: have you got some real skin in the game?
My best friend Kay, who made her transition 3 years ago. She was doing great. We were in such an extraordinary period of joy and celebration in our friendship and in our lives when suddenly she got sick and in days she was flying with the Holy Spirit. It was such a shock to my system. Sometimes I still can’t believe it, but I’m so, SO very grateful for every minute I had with her. Our friendship was one of the most precious gifts of my life.
Kay had a passion for life and, at 70 years old, she didn’t rest. Her spiritual growth, her spiritual practice was #1 in her life – EVERY DAY. Like me, she was always hungry for the expansion and willing to go for it! We loved to share our passion for Spirit and to be in spiritual practice together often.
Right now I’m on the island of Kauai – I came to do a work retreat – I’m working on an iPhone app for A Course in Miracles and recording all the lessons. Yesterday I did some work with a very beautiful healer. As he was giving me a massage I suddenly felt Kay with us. I realized this sweet man must have known Kay because she lived here on Kauai for 15 years and was so engaged in the healing community as a spiritual teacher and a healing presence. I asked if he knew Kay and he said, “Of course. How could I not know her?”
The only real legacy there is for us is the legacy of Love. Why? Because Love is always NOW. The Love that I experienced with my friend Kay was deeply healing for both of us. There was not one time that we ever got together that we didn’t remark how precious it was that we had this time together. We were so grateful that we’d found each other. Together with our friend, Shan, who brought us together, we three would sit and do spiritual practice together and delight that we had these glorious times.
Before I met Shan and Kay, I discovered the glory of doing spiritual practice with the invisible beings of Love & Light who led me to Shan & Kay. I asked for people to do do practice with and I was led to my sweet soul sisters. Ask and it is given. What are you asking for? Are you asking for spiritual support, healing and insight? Ask and it is given! What else is there to ask for?
With every passing day, I realize the value of putting what is most important for my ENTIRE life first. For me, the most important thing is to LOVE, I am able to more clearly Love when I focus on healing all the habits of separation, limitation and suffering and to fully awaken to the spiritual truth of my life. What could ever be more important? This is the only thing that is holy, lasting and eternal. It is all that matters, because it is all that is real.
The best decision I ever made was to really, truly make God the only thing that is important my life. This is my spiritual practice of Love that is a living practice I am engaged in all day.
At the end of 2011, I was meditating on Love a lot and I realized that the thing I’d like to be the best at is loving. The thing I’d like to know the most about is Love. The thing I’d like to participate the most in is Love.
In some moments I’m an utter failure.
In some moments I completely forget my aspiration to be wholly loving and I’m judgmental.
Yet, I am no longer afraid of failure. Why? Because, I’m a learner! I intend to learn from each mis-take and challenge. I am making the most of this day, even if I’m not fully living it as if it’s my last. At least I’m pretty sure that there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. I’m on track. And it’s my commitment to spiritual practice that keeps me on track. Spiritual Practice is the ONLY way to unfold YOUR highest possibility. Only YOU can do it for YOU.
In my classes, one of the primary things we focus on is learning how to work in the invisible to clear away the mental clutter so we can focus and be far more effective in our relationships, in healing, in work and creativity. The only way I know to do this is through spiritual practice and focus. That’s what worked for me. And that’s why I offer these classes – to assist folks in clearing the clutter, staying focused and healing their hearts with loving support, compassion and guidance and the exact steps that have been proven to work for so many.
