In working so closely with so many people, one of the most common things I notice is that people have a list of things that they want, including relationships and experiences. And yet, many people are not comfortable receiving.
Do you notice any of these things about yourself:
Do you have difficulty receiving a compliment?
If someone would like to give you something nice, do you feel uncomfortable?
If someone would like to buy you a meal, do you feel it’s better to split the check or buy THEIR dinner?
Do you feel like you owe someone something in return of you receive from them?
Being a better receiver can change your life.
You can decide to learn to be more receptive starting now.
One way to start is simply to dress a bit more nicely. People will notice and give you compliments. You can open to receive them. Good practice!
Be aware when you’re not receptive and see what thoughts you’re thinking. What is the meaning you’re making of giving and receiving in that moment of discomfort? It’s an opportunity to let the false belief go and to know the truth.
If you’d like to open to new possibilities, it’s very valuable to be a good receiver!
