When we have an effective spiritual practice – as offered by A Course in Miracles, then we can unhook from the past.  I don’t know another way that is as fast, and efficient.

Over the last 25 years of studying to become a spiritual counselor and then being one, I have sat with individuals, a thousand or more, who are clinging to the past and suffering as a result of their thoughts about what happened in the past.

The events are long past.

It’s no longer happening.
And yet the wound is growing.

Time doesn’t heal wounds.
How could time heal anything?

Time has no volition, it has no inner purpose, or intelligence, it’s nothing.
What is time’s healing method?
It has none, because it’s not a healer.

Only LOVE is a healer.
When we move out of the bitter, angry, hurt, confused, resentful, guilty, jealous and ashamed perspective of our personality, then we can remember and recognize that Love is what we actually are.  

When we remember we are Love and we remember TO be loving, then we’re healed, and so are those around us.

Why does Love have this healing power?
It’s simple.  So very simple.

It’s because Love is what we are.
So, when we are extending Love, sharing Love, being loving, then we’re vibrating in our true identity.

Our true identity is perfect, whole, complete.
Our true nature is perfectly infinite, eternal wholeness.  

When we choose Love, consistently, we’re healed.

Love doesn’t need anything in return.
Love doesn’t stop when things change.  
We don’t fall in and out of Love.
Love isn’t manipulative or controlling.

Love is patient,
Love is kind.
It does not envy, 
it does not boast, 
it is not proud. 
It does not dishonor others, 
it is not self-seeking, 
it is not easily angered, 
it keeps no record of wrongs. 
Love does not delight in evil 
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails. 

I could make a list of reasons why people don’t choose healing, and don’t choose Love.  People dedicate themselves to holding onto hurt, to grudges, and abuses.  

They dedicate their lives to it.
They invest their health, and their life force into it.
It seems like a defiant act of revenge – using their life to bear witness to the wound.

And then it becomes a habit.
It becomes a reason to live.
And then we forget that it’s even optional.  

We have the power to heal, to transform, and to do something profoundly beneficial with our life.  

And when we Love ourselves, we will.

I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels, how victorious I feel, when someone I’m working with lays the burden down and decides to use their life for something wonderful instead of dedicating it to holding onto the pain of the past.  

It’s the best feeling ever.
And that’s what inspires me every day.

I’m excited to get out of bed every day, because I KNOW that miracles are unfolding, Joy is being revealed and the unconditional nature of Love is healing us now.  

And I can’t wait to get going!

We can move into the place where the Love is – it’s right now.
