I used to have such mixed feelings about visiting with other people – going to their house or having them come to mine. I had completely convinced myself that it was because other people’s energy would bring me down.
I’m so glad I finally realized that the only thing that can bring me down is my own negativity and attack thoughts. When I’d visit people, or they’d visit me, and I’d judge them all day and night, and judge myself in comparison and that’s the thing that made visits so painful.
I couldn’t wait to be on my own again. Less triggers.
By truly practicing A Course in Miracles, and living these teachings, all that changed. Now, I love having visitors and I’m so comfortable going to other people’s homes. Last week I was in California for 9 days and this week I’ve got wonderful visitors.
I’m so very grateful to myself for doing that inner work to liberate from recycling my insecurities and false beliefs.
It seems like we can’t change – and that we’ll never get free of certain habits and patterns, but I’m here to say that’s a bold-faced lie. We can transform like a caterpillar to a butterfly!
Our willingness to be neutral, compassionate and to let the judgments go – that’s the requirement.
It works. It is a moment by moment practice that can be really challenging, but then we get good at it and it’s not challenging anymore, it’s just how we live and it’s so fruitful that it’s not difficult. It becomes our way of life, like eating and breathing – being compassionate is just what we do!
I’m not always 100% successful, but on my worst day, I’m 1000% better than I used to be and that feels wonderful!
