There’s a section in the Manual for Teachers called Should Healing Be Repeated?
My mind travels back to it often.
The question it asks is one many of us live inside without naming: if I already prayed about this, already brought it to the light, already handed it over, why am I doing it again?
Here’s what it tells us. We repeat the healing out of doubt.
Not doubt about God. Not doubt that God is listening, that God cares, that God is here.
A Course in Miracles is precise about this:
“The real basis for doubt about the outcome of any problem that has been given to God’s Teacher for resolution is always self-doubt. And that necessarily implies that trust has been placed in an illusory self, for only such a self can be doubted.”
Read that second sentence again.
Only an illusory self can be doubted.
Of course we’re going to doubt the personality’s effectiveness. Of course we are. The personality was never designed to work miracles.
So let’s stop placing our trust there. Not in our personality, not in anyone else’s.
The way we become miracle workers is by placing our trust and our faith in Spirit. In God. In the Holy Spirit. That’s what eliminates the doubt, because we stop assigning the work to our ego-identified self.
Notice where this section sits. It comes after the development of trust. The order isn’t accidental.
When I pray now, I’m not trying to make something happen. I’m anchoring in.
My mind is the mind of God.
My life is the life of God.
My heart is the heart of God.
The power of Love is within me.
I’m not trying to convince myself of the truth. Years ago, when I first began making these prayerful declarations, I was reminding myself of the truth. That’s a slightly different energy, and it makes all the difference.
