There’s one lesson from A Course in Miracles I’ve used for years, and I use it still.
“I do not know what anything is for.” Lesson 25.
When I’m in the middle of a hard moment, this is the sentence I come back to. I used to use it all day long, and now, it goes with me all the time.
Because the pain and the suffering come from thinking we know what things are for.
Consider this. If you feel sad, if you feel angry, if you feel hurt, if you feel jealous, if you feel any negative emotion whatsoever, you think you know what things are for.
And you’re incorrect.
Until I can see clearly beyond time and space.
Until I know how every flap of a butterfly’s wing fits into the bigger picture.
Until I know the causation of every effect in this world, which I can’t know until my vision is clear.
Until then, I confess and remind myself: Jennifer, you don’t know what anything is for.
That’s our escape hatch from pain and suffering.
Practicing that day in and day out has been genuinely transformative for me in eliminating these cycles of self-sabotage.
Look at how the cycle actually runs. We see something. We interpret it. We make meaning of it. We get upset. Yet the interpretation was guesswork. The meaning was a story. The upset was built on a foundation we never once tested.
Here’s the gift: we don’t have to keep doing this.
When we catch ourselves spinning about what something meant, what they intended, what happens next, we can stop right there.
I do not know what anything is for.
The Higher Holy Spirit Self does know. We can defer to that knowing. This is an inside job. No one can do it for us. Yet people can help us. That’s the whole reason I teach the way I teach.
Every day we get another chance to lay down the meaning we made and let the truth burst through our awareness, if we allow it.
We’re taking the escape hatch.
If you’re ready to stop going it alone, consider my Finding Freedom From Fear Bootcamp which starts next month.
We’re grateful and thankful to give away all forms of fear to the Higher Holy Spirit Self for healing. Spirit cannot fail.
We’re taking our power back.
