I’m writing this on the plane as I fly to Washington, D.C. to join another ACIM teacher, friend, in demonstrating in support of democracy and truth in government.

I’ve talked about how I was raised by two activists, my parents, Dan and Gayle. I was born in 1959 and my parents were 22.  They were just graduated from college, having met at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and my Dad was getting his PhD.  They weren’t planning to have kids right away, but 10 months after they married I was born.

My consciousness raising work began shortly after I was born.

My parents were very focused on the civil rights movement in the 1960’s when I was growing up.  I was an infant when my mother was going door to door with a friend, a black man, and they were posing as a young married couple with a baby who were looking for a home to buy in “nice white” neighborhoods.  It was a consciousness experiment to get people thinking about integration in their neighborhoods by presenting as a “nice young couple that happened to be interracial.

So, that was the beginning for me.  I remember going to various campaign headquarters and doing odd jobs while my parents were working on political campaigns for their favorite candidates.  My Dad even ran for local office.

During the Vietnam war, we went on Peace marches and I remember getting dressed up to march with my Mom on mother’s day.

I’ve continued that work.  To me, if it’s done with kindness, with compassion, with Joy, then it’s Jesus’ work.

Didn’t Jesus speak for the marginalized people?

Didn’t he speak up for the poor and disenfranchised?

Didn’t he speak truth to power?

Of course he did.

I live by what it says in A Course in Miracles:  Seek not to change the world, but to change your mind about the world.

I truly am not deeply upset about what’s going on in the world.  I don’t like a lot of it, but I’m at Peace, because I feel the undercurrents of everything working together for good, and everything is truly helpful.  I’m not worried.

I recognize not everyone who likes me, likes my political perspective, and that some people don’t like it so much they feel a need to attack me for it.  I get it.  I can live with that, and I have compassion for that too – because I’ve been the attacker.  I’ve been the one who felt so threatened I felt compelled to attack.  I lived in that space for a LONG time.

As a Peace activist, I found that one thing most of us had in common was that we yearned for Peace because we didn’t have it and couldn’t find it within ourselves, so we looked outside of ourselves to try and bring Peace.  It doesn’t quite work, but, the intention does bring you closer to Peace if you really mean it – at least it did for me.

I talked a little bit about this in my most recent podcast episode entitled, More Love In Your Life.  I have had so many friends who were veterans and I have such respect and admiration for them.  I’ve learned that about one-third of the government work force is veterans.  And to fire so many people without warning, for no cause, is not only illegal, it’s profoundly ungrateful and unkind.  Fortunately the courts will not uphold these firings, at least I doubt they will.  I feel I need to go to Washington and say, “this unkindness is unnecessary.”  Those veterans made sacrifices for me.  I feel it’s the least I can do is support them.

I have a good friend who is in her 70’s and she woke up to find that her medicare was cancelled for no reason.  There was a report that she’d moved and that caused the cancellation, but she’s lived in the same home for more than a decade.  This seems to be the result of tampering with the systems by people who don’t know what they’re doing – but we can’t say for sure.

I’ve talked with many seniors who are quite frightened about what would happen if their benefits, the ones they worked for their whole adult lives, were diminished or taken away.

Scaring our elders?  That’s unnecessary and seems rather cruel.  I would think it’s the elected officials responsibility, the people that we elected to represent us, to actually look out for our best interests.

AND I’m definitely for government efficiency, integrity and fiscal responsibility.  I feel there’s a way to get there without frightening people and without harming them.

AND I used to be someone who could be cruel, vicious, unkind and uncaring, and so I have a LOT of compassion for people who are in that mindset of not caring about others.  I get it.  I feel strongly that we’re to assist them in coming into their right mind, and recognizing that we’re all one.  To have, give all to ALL.

Here’s what I’m doing today:  https://nowmarch.org/

I’m not asking anyone to agree with me, but my “thing” is to share my experiences, my thoughts and feelings and what I’m learning along the way.  It’s a journey.  We’re on a path of awakening together.  I feel the good, the perfection, the Wholeness underneath all the display that we see in the world.  I feel good things are happening.  Despite appearances, I feel healing is happening.

Many, MANY times in my life, I’ve made self-destructive choices in order to realize that’s not the way.  I learned through pain.

I can hold the high watch while others do the same.  In a sense, that’s my job.  I know all of the darkness is being brought to the Light of Love.

Let truth be revealed and Love prevail.

That’s my prayer.

Now is the time for us to truly LIVE these teachings of A Course in Miracles and that’s why I’m feeling called to offer my workshops – I have one this weekend:  Activating Faith & Trust for A Happier Life and then on the 2nd I have another FREE Forgiveness workshop.
