Here’s my report back to you after the surgery on my fractured finger yesterday.

I didn’t have my usual solid night of sleep the night before. I know I was a little nervous, because I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect and I was feeling a little vulnerable.

Everything went well, though. I’m very grateful for all the kindness of everybody who attended to me and took care of me.

As I write this on Wednesday night, the numbing medication is still wearing off. I’m not expecting to have a lot of pain. I’m very grateful for that.

Dr. Merlin said everything went very well. He didn’t need to do an invasive surgery. He just needed to poke a couple of holes in order to put in a pin to hold the two sides of the fracture together while it heals. I don’t know yet whether I’ll have that pin for the rest of my life.

Even though it seems like a small thing, I’ll have to have physical therapy for quite a few weeks. That will be interesting.

Here’s one of the coolest things about my experience.

After a couple of hours in the preparation phase, waiting my turn for surgery, they came and got me and took me down the hall on a gurney. They wheeled me into the room and said they were administering the anesthesia. I had made the decision, in consultation with Dr. Merlin, to go completely unconscious.

The procedure took maybe forty-five minutes at the most. Then I woke back up in recovery. The time in between seemed about 2 seconds.

That was a strange experience. I had no memory of going under. Just the beginning of feeling that I was drifting off, and then here I am, waking up. Amazing. I can’t remember ever having an experience like that before in my life.

The little bit of fear I had was a good reminder to me that fear is something I don’t have much of at all anymore. It was just a little bit of buzz in the background.

The fear helped me to remember what it used to be like for me when I would feel very afraid at times.

I can remember when there was a sense of worry in the background all the time.

I’m grateful for the awareness that I don’t have that anymore. It makes me even more grateful for the teachings of A Course in Miracles.

ACIM tells us, “There is nothing to fear.”

It is absolutely, one hundred percent true. Because I committed to truly living these teachings and turning my consciousness over to the Holy Spirit, I experience a greater surrender every day. I also experience more Peace every day.

“I will step back and let Him lead the way.”

As the weeks and months and years go by, it’s very clear to me that this is a different way of living.

I feel so blessed to have been led and guided to study A Course in Miracles, and to practice.

ACIM also tells us, “Healing is release from the fear of waking.”

My personal experience is so precious to me.

My healing is so profoundly precious to me, because I never imagined it was possible for someone like me, yet here I am.

This is the thing that compels me to share. I have zero pride at all in my mind’s healing. I do have a profound amount of gratitude. Forgiveness got me here.

If you could use some of that forgiveness, we’re gathering this weekend.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE:  Let Them Wake Up What if the person who irritates us most is holding the light we’ve been looking for? I’m picking up where I left off in Chapter 13 of A Course in Miracles, and this part turns the whole thing around: we find our own light through the people we give it to. I tell you about the years I was the most judgmental person I knew, when I thought certain people deserved to be punished and I believed I was the one to do the punishing. And I’ll tell you what happened on my thirty-hour trip home from Asheville, and why I never once lost my peace over it. There’s only one requirement, and it isn’t effort.
