I’m having a minor surgery today. I have a fracture on the ring finger of my left hand. I may not need a surgery that requires an incision. That remains to be seen.
Here’s how I got this fracture.I was walking Bodhi one night and we happened upon our friends and neighbors who were walking their dog. We stopped to chat, and while we were stopped and the dogs were sniffing each other, the leash was relaxed and had some slack in it. Bodhi saw a rabbit and took off on a run. The leash ran through my hand and the poop bag holder smacked against my finger so hard that it fractured my finger.
I wasn’t clear that my finger was fractured for quite a few weeks, because my finger was so swollen it was hard to tell. Perhaps I should have gotten it x-rayed immediately, but I’ve had incidents like this in the past and everything healed just fine. This time it hasn’t – yet.
Now that the swelling has gone down I can see that my finger isn’t healing correctly, so I got an x-ray, and now I’m going to have a procedure that will bring the bone into alignment so that it heals properly.
After a couple of weeks I’ll have some physical therapy. It’s hard to imagine what that physical therapy will be like, but I’m sure it will be an adventure that brings forth new insights. Life always brings me new insights, for which I’m grateful.
In filling out all the paperwork for this series of doctor visits and x-rays and procedures, I’ve been asked a number of times a long list of things about my health. I’ve been reminded repeatedly of just how grateful I am for my body.
I’ve only had surgery when I was a young teen. I had my tonsils and adenoids out, and then I had my wisdom teeth removed. Those are the only surgeries I’ve ever had. I’ve only spent one night in a hospital, and that was for my tonsillectomy.
How blessed am I?
I’m not on any medications. I recently had COVID a few weeks ago and I took Paxlovid, which is the first medication I’ve taken in twenty years. I just haven’t had any illnesses.
I was never vaccinated against COVID. My intuition told me not to be, and I listened. That experience I had with COVID recently was a total non-event. A blessing.
Trust isn’t the feeling we arrive at once we’re certain. Trust is what we practice while we’re still uncertain.
I feel very fortunate that my body is healthy and strong.
I won’t say that I’m not a little bit nervous going into a situation where I’ll be put under anesthetic for a very short time, maybe forty-five minutes. They’re giving me some serious pain medication, so perhaps I’ll experience some serious pain. I hope not.
I expect I don’t have to take the pain medication if I’d rather not. I value my consciousness, so I’d like to keep it strong and clear. In the past I’ve had small injuries like this and I’ve been able to navigate all of it without a lot of difficulty or pain.
What I know is that life is a continuous adventure in learning and experience, and I’m very grateful for all the ways in which life supports me in growing and learning through ease and Grace.
Everything like this gives me an opportunity to practice neutrality, to be peaceful, and to perhaps introduce people to a shift in consciousness.
People ask me what I do for a living and I tell them that I teach forgiveness. People often say to me, “well, that’s something everybody needs. I could use some of that.” Sometimes those people actually do check out what we’re offering.
How cool is this: my doctor’s name is Merlin.
Merlin is one of my guides. Yes, that Merlin. I think of him as an Ascended Master who is reminding me consistently that I have a wizard mind. My doctor Merlin seems like a really good man who has a great attitude and who lives in the same town that I do. I feel very content and peaceful to trust him to do a great job. I feel comfortable being in surrender to this experience.
I’m super grateful for my consciousness, and I know that somehow, some way, this is in my script for me to grow and learn. Nothing is wrong. Everything is in perfect divine order.
A Course in Miracles tells us, “I place the future in the Hands of God.” In this case, I’m placing my hand in the hand of God.
ACIM also tells us, “I am entitled to miracles.”
I’m inviting you to join me in prayer today as I go through this. I am expecting miracles, and those are my only expectations. I’m super grateful that I live in an area where I can receive excellent care.
“I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal.”
If you could use some of that forgiveness, we’re gathering this weekend.

LATEST PODCAST EPISODE: Let Them Wake Up What if the person who irritates us most is holding the light we’ve been looking for? I’m picking up where I left off in Chapter 13 of A Course in Miracles, and this part turns the whole thing around: we find our own light through the people we give it to. I tell you about the years I was the most judgmental person I knew, when I thought certain people deserved to be punished and I believed I was the one to do the punishing. And I’ll tell you what happened on my thirty-hour trip home from Asheville, and why I never once lost my peace over it. There’s only one requirement, and it isn’t effort.
