I’ve learned that being held accountable is helpful to me.  My prayer partners are my loving accountability partners, and so is the staff of the Power of Love Ministry, and so are the participants in our programs.  Everyone I come in contact with is a potential accountability partner.

Accountability brings out the best in me.

Sometimes I don’t realize how things impact people, or the meaning they make of it, and it can be so helpful to discuss things.  In that process, people hold me accountable for my choices and I find it helpful.  Often, I wouldn’t know the way people interpret things if they didn’t share with me.  There are times when I don’t state what’s obvious to me and so what I’m sharing is unclear.

When accountability is with compassion, understanding, kindness, for the purpose of correction and bringing things to the Light, then it’s very helpful.

If it’s about punishment, it’s probably going to be painful.

There are companies that have business practices that bring harm to people and when it’s pointed out they don’t self-correct.  Sometimes the only way to bring correction is through legal action.

If the legal action is to punish, that is not a helpful energetic to engage in – ever. That’s my feeling about it.

There have been many times in my life when people have ripped me off, actively stolen from me, and harmed me in this world, and when I was younger – a teenager, a child – I’d retaliate.  I learned that’s never a good idea.  I tend to turn the other cheek.  I let Spirit deal with the situation and I deal with my thoughts and feelings about it.

And still, there have also been many times when it was very fruitful to have a conversation, to discover more about the details and learn what was going on in the minds of others and what motivated their choices.

People can be careless.  I’ve been careless and it’s hurt other people.  I’ve had the opportunity to take responsibility and ultimately, I’ve felt that was a good thing – the taking responsibility, the dialogues, the connection and being honest and truthful have brought benefit.

When people have been negligent of me and been hurtful towards me and I can have a conversation with them, sometimes the greatest thing is that I’ve given them a way to take responsibility, and relieve themselves of their burden of guilt.  To me, one of the GREAT gifts and benefits of being able to hold someone accountable through a dialogue is then the guilt can be released, compassion, Love can flow and miracles occur.

Punishment isn’t ever fruitful.  Holding people accountable can be a way to offer correction, but if it’s seen as a punishment then it’s a road that will surely bring suffering.

I’ve had enough suffering.  Thank you very much.  I don’t wish to inflict any suffering or experience it.  Correction and Responsibility these are helpful tools to assist us in our awakening.  They bring forth more compassion and that’s healing.
