Faith is freedom from worry.

That’s true when our faith is placed in Spirit. Placed in the ego thought system, faith isn’t relief from worry at all. It’s the cause of it.

When we place our faith in the ego, we’re going down a rocky road for sure.  Here’s one thing we can do right now to eliminate suffering. Pause.  I mean pause right now.

Look within, and see if we can find the places where we’ve been putting our faith in someone else’s ego.  Have we been investing with someone emotionally, mentally, physically, or financially, hoping it’ll bring a result we’d really like to have?  Maybe there’s a little worry attached to it. A little anxiousness.

That worry may be a warning bell from our Higher Holy Spirit Self.

Very often when we’re trying to manipulate or coerce someone, very often when we’re giving anything in order to get something in return, it simply isn’t going to go well for us.

Then, when it doesn’t go well, we go looking for someone to be angry with. We generally find one.  We decide that person is unforgivable, because it’s their fault. They did it to us.

But in virtually every instance, when we boil it down, we’re the one who decided.

A Course in Miracles names it plainly: “The problem was the lack of faith.”

Not their unreliability.
Not our bad luck.
Faith placed somewhere it could never possibly hold.

The ego is unstable. The ego doesn’t know.

Only Spirit knows.

We might have brief moments where we’re convinced we know exactly what’s happening and where it’s all headed. Brief is the operative word. Intuitively, we already know the betrayal is coming when we place our faith and trust in the ego. That’s the quiet dread underneath our confidence.

Faith in Spirit is our freedom from all of it.

It’s freedom from worry, and it’s freedom to live the life we most truly desire.

None of this asks us to be certain. It asks us to be willing.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE:  The Decision to Forget One ordinary morning, Leon Joel Russell opened A Course in Miracles and hit a single paragraph that stopped him cold for six days. This week Jennifer Hadley sits down with her fellow ACIM teacher to follow where that paragraph led them, into a question most of us spend a lifetime avoiding: what are we actually afraid of, underneath all of it? Where they take it is lighter than the question sounds. Two friends who love the truth, going somewhere worth following.
