“Would you know the will of God for you? Ask it of me who knows it for you, and you will find it.”
When I first read these words from Jesus in A Course in Miracles, I thought, “Yeah, right. I’ve been asking for years.”
But I wasn’t really asking. I was bargaining.
The Asking That Actually Works
Here’s what I didn’t understand: True asking requires no labor. It’s not about proving yourself worthy first. It’s not about suffering enough to earn an answer.
Jesus says: “I will deny you nothing, as God denies me nothing.”
Sit with that for a moment. NOTHING is denied.
Why We’re Afraid to Really Ask
I’ll tell you what held me back – the terror that God’s will meant no more ice cream, no more sex, no more Netflix binges. I thought joining with God’s will meant becoming an austere, joy-less spiritual robot.
But here’s an ACIM truth bomb: God’s will for you is PERFECT HAPPINESS.
Not partial happiness. Not happiness with conditions. PERFECT happiness.
The Practice of True Asking
Stop thinking you know what will make you happy. ACIM tells us straight up: “You don’t even know what will make you happy, so stop thinking that you do.”
Instead, try this:
- Place your hand on your heart
- Say “Holy Spirit, I’m willing to know God’s will for me”
- Then actually listen – not for words, but for the feeling of peace
That’s it. No drama. No 40-day fast required.
Your Will IS God’s Will
Here’s what I learned: There’s no separate will. Our true will and God’s will are the same because we ARE part of God. The only “separate will” is an illusion maintained by the ego.
In my programs, we practice this together-learning to ask, to receive, and to trust that what we receive is always for our highest good.
We can stop making it complicated. Wwe can stop thinking we need to earn it and simply ask.
“Ours is simply the journey back to God who is our home.” And the door is always open.
