Goodwill Hunting and Finding!

Through my dedication to my personal practice of nonviolence I’ve come to see that my prayers are always answered, but not always how I expect.

When I prayed to be more patient challenging people showed up in my life.

When I prayed to be kinder and give up judgment people who were really difficult to deal with found their way to me.

When I prayed to be more compassionate people who had no compassion blessed me with their presence.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in his well known sermon “Loving Your Enemies,” told us “Jesus says love [your enemy] … Love is understanding goodwill for all men, so that you love everybody because God loves them. You refuse to do anything that will defeat an individual because you have agape in your soul.”

Daily, Spirit fulfills my prayer to demonstrate goodwill and be unshakeable in my practice. There’s so much beauty, love and joy in my being challenged by someone and being able to extend the patience, kindness and compassion that is my true nature. When I stumble, if I fall, I pick myself up with kindness. I dust myself off with compassion. Divine justice has taught me that the answered prayer is in me–it’s never out there. It’s in my having to lift my attention to see with God’s eyes and think God thoughts, that’s God’s will as Good Will in me. These possibilities are always in me. It’s up to me to choose them. The answer to my every misperception is in my seeing rightly. Nothing has to be acquired in order for me to see rightly. What is required is my good-willingness.

God has already given me all that I need or want because infinite love surrounds me and is my nature. If I’m not willing to BE that love, can I possibly expect to find MORE of it outside of me? Can I pray for a world without violence and be unkind to myself? Can I pray to have more peace and be rude to people who are rude to me?

How grateful I am that today people who need compassion and kindness will meet me on the road and we can bless each other. How joyful I am to know that my prayer is always answered and my will is God’s will. Today I am the love, I am the peace, I am the compassion that I seek. I am the answered prayer. I have no enemies. Goodwill is mine.
