Here’s an interesting observation:

After working with so many people as a spiritual counselor, as a spiritual leader and teacher, a minister, a practitioner and just as someone having a human experienced, I’ve noticed that it’s often the case that folks who feel completely unworthy of having a spiritual awakening are quite likely to have rapid spiritual growth.

One of the reasons is that they can get out of their heads and just surrender to doing a spiritual practice that works without judging it so much.

Folks who feel they’re spiritual know-it-alls sometimes don’t make much spiritual progress because they feel they already know so much.

Humility is a powerful factor in our journey of awakening.

Humility is different than being humble.

Humility is realizing no one is better than anyone else and no one is worse than anyone else because we’re all one.

That’s real humility.

Being humble is not feeling superior, but it can also mean feeling inferior or less than.   Humble can also mean simple, modest – unpretentious.  However, one can come from modest or humble beginnings, growing up poor or in very simple surroundings, yet be of extraordinary intelligence, genius, and/or having a profoundly loving heart.

Humility is essential to our awakening.

We get to humility through surrender.

We can do that with ease and grace – OR –

We can be humiliated.

We get to choose which way we’ll go.

I chose humiliation.

I don’t recommend it, but it got the job done!

And for that, I’m eternally grateful.
