A Course in Miracles Chapter 16 paints a powerful picture of the bridge to the real world – it’s a bridge from the ego’s perspective to Spirit’s perspective. On the ego side, something specific is happening to all of us:

“What is little and insignificant is magnified, and what is strong and powerful cut down to littleness.”

Think about that for a moment. The trauma we’ve experienced – the painful situations, the self-betrayals, the things people did to us – all of that littleness gets magnified until it takes up the entire view of our life.

“I’m unworthy because of these things that happened to me.”

Meanwhile, what is strong and powerful – our loving heart, our mind that is the mind of God – gets cut down to nothing. Rather than magnifying our magnificence and letting that fill the view, we fill our view with our perceived littleness.

Instead of telling our little God about our big problem,
let’s tell our little problem about our big God.

Crossing the bridge to the real world means being willing to go through a period of confusion. ACIM tells us: “Fear it not, for it means only that you have been willing to let go your hold on the distorted frame of reference that seemed to hold your world together.”

That distorted frame of reference is built around our special relationships. Without that illusion, everything we thought we knew falls apart for a while. I definitely experienced this – a period that was very confusing where I felt disoriented because for my whole life I had been oriented around seeing myself as a victim. It took me a while to get my footing because I was forgiving so much so fast.

I had a strong desire to move through it.
I was willing to do the work.

ACIM reassures us that this transition period is far shorter than the time it took to fix our minds so firmly on illusions. Spiritual practice saves time. It truly does.

The people who keep going through that confusion, not letting it stop them because they have a desire to know the truth, and who keep doing the forgiveness work, come out the other side with an entirely new way of being. More peaceful. More harmonious. More joyful. A sense of dread falls away.

In my Masterful Living Program, we cross that bridge together, with support every step of the way. And my Recovery from Betrayal workshop this weekend is a powerful step onto that bridge.

Let’s cross it together

LATEST ACIM PODCAST EPISODE:  Anger Was My Favorite Emotion What if every time you blamed someone, you were actually locking in the very pain you wanted to escape? In this episode, I explore Chapter 7, Section 8 of A Course in Miracles – “The Unbelievable Belief” – and unpack a fundamental law of the mind: without projection, there can be no anger; without extension, there can be no love. I confess that anger used to be my favorite emotion – and I explain how I came to see that projection is always an expression of fear. I also share why taking total responsibility – with zero blame – is the counterintuitive way out of suffering. The conflict isn’t out there in the world. It’s in here, in how we see. And that’s actually good news – because we can change our mind. We’re doing this together.
