The other day I put some coffee on to brew and I walked away to do some other things. I came back and there was coffee all over – dripping off the counter down the cabinets and onto the floor. It was a mess. Now, my coffee maker has that feature where you can pull out the carafe while it’s brewing and it stops dripping – so you can grab a cup while it’s brewing if you just can’t wait till it finishes.
Sometimes that feature doesn’t work so well.
So I adjusted the pot and thought it was working right and started to clean up the mess, but it just kept coming.
I’ll be honest, I’ve had a few issues with this coffee maker. And in that moment, I had an opinion that maybe this coffee maker was not “ALL GOOD.” Maybe it was less good and not good enough.
Was that a projection or an observation? Hmmmmmmm.
Then I simply opened my mind and asked, what’s causing this? And I instantly knew that I forgot to put the thing that holds the filter back in after I washed it. I have a gold filter, and I forgot that the filter needs its holder. So, that’s why coffee just poured all over the place.
So, it wasn’t the coffee machine, it was the coffee maker – Jennifer – that had the issue. Hmmmm. It was one of those live and learn situations. I definitely learned.
Now, the next day, I went to make coffee and all went perfectly. And so I thanked my coffee machine. I really was grateful to the machine for doing it’s thing.
It feels so good to be grateful.
Why NOT thank the coffee machine, the water you bathe in, and the car that you drive? Practicing gratitude all day lifts the spirits. I’m SO grateful for my computer that I’m writing this on right now! I’m grateful for so much! I look out the window at the beautiful mountains here in Kauai and I’m grateful all day. I watch the sunrise and feel so grateful just to be able to see it, day after day. I’m grateful for the roosters crowing and the whole enchilada. I’m even grateful when it feels challenging because I know I’m learning something.
The practice of gratitude is deeply healing, practice all day and you’ll feel differently all day! Gratitude is a practice that helps us hear, and see and know and feel more clearly the Love that’s always there for us and that’s no small thing.
