These are such intense times for so many. There’s a lot going on in the world, as well as internally. We’re all feeling it.

So, this is where we get to practice living above the battlefield. That doesn’t mean being in denial of what’s going on. It also doesn’t mean ignoring what’s going on.

What it does mean is that we need to employ our spiritual practice in order to maintain our peaceful mind, so we can be truly helpful.

Right now, the turmoil is very real for a lot of people, and it’s the call for us to be more loving, compassionate, gentle, and committed to Love.

One thing we can know about people who are unkind, mercenary, destructive, mean, hurtful, and selfish is that they are showing us what A Course in Miracles would call “a cry for love.” People who behave in those ways have been wounded and they’re acting out from their pain and they DESERVE our compassion.

When I was troubled and floundering, and I behaved unkindly, I only wish that I’d encountered people who could have responded with genuine Love and compassion. I think it could have been life-changing for me.

I deal with people all the time who are upset for a myriad of reasons and that close contact has been so transformative for me because I’ve made such a commitment to being as loving as I can be. There are times when I am amazed at how calm and loving I feel in the face of real challenge and then there are times when I could have done better, but regardless, I aspire to truly Love my brothers and sisters.

When people are challenging me they’re giving me the opportunity to strengthen my commitment to my aspiration.

A Course in Miracles helps us to understand that exhaustion comes from trying to work with our false beliefs, and juggle our opinions and judgments. It says, “Rest comes from waking, not from sleeping.”

If you’re feeling exhausted in these times, and overwhelmed by what’s going on – whether it’s in your family or the world – it’s helpful to remember to lean on Spirit to identify what thoughts are true and to remove the rest. Being willing to give up our attachments to our judgments, opinions, needs and wants, and move into an active willingness to represent the one who sent us is what leads to Peace.

Those who are truly loving, who serve the light are invulnerable.

When we’re being loving in our mind, that’s loving to our self. And that’s healing.
