Have you ever thought about the difference between faith and hope?
It’s really worth considering. If you’re going on a trip and you tell me about it before you leave – which of these two statements would you rather hear me say:
“I trust you’ll have a safe journey.”
“I hope you have a safe journey.”
For sure, I’d rather hear someone say they “trust” I’ll have a safe journey.
When we’re living in faith we place our trust in the Divine.
Hope is a kind of wish or possibly even a fantasy. For some people hope can be like a drug.
One teacher I’ve learned a lot from is Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He is such a beautiful teacher of mindfulness and his book Peace is Every Step is one of the best books I’ve ever read and studied. I go back to it again and again. In this wonderful book he has an essay entitled “Hope as an Obstacle,” in which he shares:
“Since we cling to our hope in the future, we do not focus our energies and capabilities on the present moment. We use hope to believe something better will happen in the future, that we will arrive at peace, or the Kingdom of God. Hope becomes a kind of obstacle. If you can refrain from hoping you can bring yourself entirely into the present moment and discover the joy that is already there. Enlightenment, peace and joy will not be granted by someone else. The well is within us, and if we dig deeply in the present moment, the water will spring forth.”
I encourage you to look at where in your life you are waiting in hope, in expectation, wishing for something better rather than seeking the Kingdom, which IS within, in the present moment. We cannot enjoy peace in the future. Peace is now. If we can be satisfied with hoping then we may never seek the Kingdom.
If we settle for just hoping things improve, we’re not actively involved in improving our life.
Trust and faith are extremely active. They require our mind to engage and make a decision about the future. Hope is quite passive.
If you have someone on your team, who is helping you to bring the deep desires of your heart to fruition, would you rather they hope for a magnificent outcome or would you rather they have trust and faith?
Will you consider giving up hoping and wishing? Will you trade them for faith and trust?
I can tell you that the #1 issue people bring to my Masterful Living Course is a desire to develop true trust and faith. It’s the #1 result people have and that’s what brings all the miracles.
If you’re willing, all else will be added unto you too!
Next Saturday, July 19, I’m offering one of my most popular workshops: Unblock the Flow of Your Time, Energy & Money. If you have issues that trigger you emotionally, causing worry, fear or doubt, this workshop is for you.
We can break that habit of fear and worry, doubt and damage. Let’s do it together! I used to STRESS SO MUCH about not having enough of all kinds of things and being free of all that worry is such a game changer – now I invest my energy in things that are actually worthwhile – like writing these daily inspirations!
LATEST ACIM PODCAST EPISODE: my topic is Knowing Oneness and Unity. A Course in Miracles is about liberating from the false belief of thinking we’re separate, on our own, and disconnected from God. It’s about remembering the unity of all life. In this week’s episode I share what has really worked for me to help me recognize, and really feel connected to all. We’re one with each other whether we realize it or not.
