Oh, I realize I’ve made watching this TV show a false idol. It’s more important.
That’s one of the ways I catch the barriers to Love in my own mind. Oh, I realize that rather than connect with people, I’d isolate. Oh, I realize I’m angry that they don’t appreciate me and recognize me, so I resent them and that becomes a block to Love.
False idols are major barriers to Love. A false idol is anything we’re worshiping instead of God, above God. It can be a loved one. It can be that special relationship. In fact, it is that special relationship.
It can seem positive or negative. Special love, special hate, same thing.
Either way, it’s a barrier to Love, to healing, to prosperity, to freedom, to Joy. Many lightworkers struggle because they don’t feel Joy and freedom in their heart, and this is why.
A Course in Miracles begins with recognizing that everything we see has only the meaning we’ve given it. Barriers are the meaning we make of things.
One of the most painful meanings we’ve made is about love itself. We’ve come to believe love is specialness. If you love me, then you’ll do this. Then you’ll do that. We’re moving out of thinking that Love equals anything in the world of form.
When we’re upset, irritated, or frustrated, we know we’re looking at projection. We’re shining the light of our awareness through the opinions, judgments, and meaning we’ve made, and seeing them writ large on the screen of our life.
Lesson 190 says it plainly: “Pain is a wrong perspective.“
The wrong perspective is the ego’s perspective. It’s the meaning we’ve made.
Writing the false idols down, and keeping track of them really helps, because it shines the light of our awareness on them.
Awareness is curative.
We don’t have to analyze where a barrier came from, how long we’ve had it, or who gave it to us. We don’t even have to figure out how to get rid of it. The Higher Holy Spirit Self knows exactly where it came from, and it still doesn’t matter. We can simply give it over. It’s the fastest path.
Without all the meaning we’ve made of things to block the Love, there’s just pure Light.
