The title for this episode came to me from that John Lennon / Yoko Ono song we often hear at Christmastime – “War Is Over If You Want It.” The crucifixion is over if we want it.

If we’re willing, our own personal crucifixion can be over and done.

To me, this is one of the most valuable things we can learn in our A Course in Miracles studies. But it’s the application where we fall down. The application is where we can do better.

A Course in Miracles, Chapter 27 tells us: “Whenever you consent to suffer pain, to be deprived, unfairly treated, or in need of anything, you but accuse your brother of attack upon God’s Son. You hold a picture of your crucifixion before his eyes that he may see his sins are written in heaven in your blood and death.”

Think about how often we consent to suffer pain.
To feel deprived. To feel unfairly treated.
To feel in need of something, anything.

It’s all the time, isn’t it?

That we feel deprived. That we feel a sense of lack and need. That we feel unfairly treated, misunderstood. That we suffer pain. This IS our attack.

We’re attacking our brothers and sisters and accusing them of attacking us. We make ourselves their victim.

This is one of the most insidious things we do. I still feel this pattern in my awareness. The sense of victimhood – “They’ve done me wrong” – can come up over the smallest things.

But the Holy Spirit offers us a completely different picture. One with no pain and no reproach. “What was martyred to his guilt becomes the perfect witness to his innocence.”

When we choose crucifixion, we take everybody with us. Because we’re all one. We attack them with guilt. But what if everything is for us and nothing is against us? What if we can learn to see that everything works together for our good, with no exceptions?

Would we still want to condemn others if we were willing to receive the gift of our good?

Here’s what has worked for me: not trying to decide how to figure it all out.
Not trying to decide who’s good and bad, who’s right and wrong.
Not trying to make anyone see or understand.
Not trying to defend myself.
All of those things just affirm I’ve been attacked.

My work is to say: everything works together for my good.
Therefore, I have not been attacked.
The attack is in my perception. It’s my projecting.
I can see this differently. I can choose the resurrection.
I’ve had enough of the crucifixion.

Instead of figuring out how to get to the end, I say, “Holy Spirit, You show me how. You teach me how. I’ll wait on Your command.”

When I’m in my right mind – when I’m more interested in extending Love and compassion than in seeking revenge – Spirit shows me. It comes clear. I know that I know that I know. I follow, and things go well.

The crucifixion is over.
We don’t have to give up anything good.
We just have to give up what’s not good:
the grievances, the grudges, the attack thoughts, the victimhood.
All of that can go. Now.

“War is over if you want it.”

“The crucified give pain because they are in pain, but the redeemed give joy because they have been healed of pain.”

Let’s be the redeemed.Let’s give Joy because we’ve been healed of pain. Let’s choose resurrection.

In my Masterful Living Program, we practice this together every day – catching the crucifixion in real time, choosing the resurrection, and letting Spirit lead us to Peace.

TOMORROW I offer you a FREE Forgiveness Workshop as a powerful space for laying grievances on the altar and choosing a new picture entirely.

LATEST ACIM PODCAST EPISODE:  I’m Done Suffering – For Any Reason What if the thing that happened to you didn’t mean what you think it means – and what if it didn’t have to mean anything at all? In this Easter episode, I share a simple story about mice eating my sunflower seeds over the winter – and how I practiced neutrality instead of upset. Then I turn to Chapter 29, Section 6 of A Course in Miracles – “Forgiveness and the End of Time” – and explore what the Course calls the “sacrifice” of forgiveness. I share the shift that took me from believing the world was cruel and gruesome to experiencing life as lovely and filled with blessing. And I reveal a surprising discovery: when we practice non-judgment, there’s nothing to forgive. If you’ve been exhausted by forgiveness work, this one might show you an easier way. We’re doing this together.
